Exclamation Low Dust Birds

Hey everyone! I was just wondering if you know of a low dust level, to virtually none, bird then please please post the name. I would prefer if they were smaller and good for a newbie to birds, but if you have anything please post. Thanks so much!

Lories and Eclectus both are somewhat 'hypoalergenic' birds. It helps to have birds who LOVE to bathe, and usually those guys are into water.

Not greys, toos or cockatiels of course...I did take my Jardine's Parrot over to a friend's house for several hours once, and I would not consider her dusty...but she preened on a stand the whole time and my friend did get very congested, obviously due to Aukie. My Eclectus and even my lories preened and lost feathers regularly, so I think there will be some people who couldn't even deal with their dander, though it would be considerably less.

also quakers are very low... to no dust!!!! they are wonderful!!! I would guess other conures would also be low or no dust but I dont know... I'll be bringing home my first GCConures thursday.

I also second the fact that tiels, too's, greys... are all bad dusty birds.. I dont love em any less... you just need to keep em much cleaner spray em more with water... and possibly add an air purifier to the room they are in!

good luck!

Budgies are very simple, clean birds that are great for first-time owners.
They are also not very dusty.

Lorikeets! Lories! Small, low or no dust, friendly, playful kittens that are gregarious, easy to tame and beautiful. They're noisy, have a liquid poop and have a nectar mix diet that they need served dry, and also with water plus fresh fruit and veg every day. I've fallen for lories though :D

Melanie, you are the poster child for lorie lovers!!! I LOVE it!!! They are gorgeous!!

The bigger no dust birds, like my ekkie and Ashling's lories, aren't what I'd call "beginner birds." My ekkie was my first parrot, but I was raised with them. They're a little sensitive to their people (if you're unhappy, they can be very unhappy, etc) and lories' diets are VERY specific (moreso than my ekkie!).

Parrotlets are adorable. Love them. Quakers and conures are a little more difficult and require more attention, but they aren't what I'd call needy birds.

Good luck, let us know what you decide!

HA! You should tell that to my sun! We are trying to work on a bit of "independence" ...

But I also wouldn't recommend him to a first time bird owner, he is too much bird! I think a parrotlet is a great idea!

Yeah I like the small birds like budgies and parrotlets, but I am afraid they will be too flighty. I'm kinda leaning to the medium small birds like quackers but tell me what you all think.

soooo... you're getting a duck then?... sorry just couldnt pass that one up.

most of the south, and central american birds are dust free, such as the conures, amazons, and macaws.
