Question about Wood Stoves and Birds

Hi everyone I just joined the board, I had a cockatiel that passed 4 yrs ago, and im finally ready to bring a new baby home. Im picking him/her up Friday.
My question is that the house we live in , we put a wood stove in this year and i was wondering if any of you have heard if it is harmful to birds, I dont plan on keeping him in the same room as the stove, but just wondering. thanks Sherry

Hmmm... well first of all welcome to BB! Secondly I don't know too much about wood, and pretty much nada about wooden stoves but you should check if the wood is treated with anything that's harmful to birds. If possible, find out what kind of wood that the stove is made out of cause there's also a few kinds of plants that are toxic to them that you might want to look up. I don't think it should be harmful though? Sorry about your cockatiel :(

thanks! the wood is never treated with anything that we burn, and its never smokey in the house, its a cast iron stove. But i wasnt sure if it let off a fume or anything that we cant smell, kinda like the teflon pans do... ill just always close the door in the room where he will be when we have it on.it still gets warm in the whole house.. ill keep researching too

a wood heater will not hurt or harm ur bird in any way unless u put the cage on it when iots on eek infact if u handrear babies then a wood heater is a good source of warmth for them my latest babies nearly time for them to leave me wahhhhhhhhhh love it in the loungeroom when the wood heater is on.
