a guy brought this bird into my work from the carpark. It was panting hard looked pretty stressed. Took it outside. Was a slight storm happening. Brought it home with me now is warm and making little chirps...and has taken 1 short flight.
I've hand raised birds before but before i get into it i wanna be sure of what kind of bird it is. As to know what it needs nutrition wise. heres some pics...i haven't researched it yet but will be after posting this....help appreciated. Chris ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'd say a bluebird also. It needs to get to a licensed rehabber. Seeing all the feathers it has, it actually close to being a fledgling. This guy, with the storm, must have been separated from the parents. Get in touch with a rehabber. These guys don't do well at the age he is, without a bird to show it what to do. Many times they refuse food. A rehabber will know what to do. I used to be involved with a wild bird rehab.

yes find a rehab expert, but he will be hungry, so offer millet and worms, to see which he goes for, to see if he's insectivorous, or herbivorous, he may be omnivorous too.

thanks for all your help everyone. My auntie works at the Australian wildlife hospital so help for sick or injured animals is easy to get a hold of fortunately.
While he does look like a bluebird we are in Queensland in Australia so I don't think we get too many bluebirds all the way down here! We are thinking a type of finch or flycatcher. Either way he is very underweight and may have a fractured foot, but he is in good hands. If his foot turns out to be ok we are taking him to where he was picked up to see if he will be fed by parents or other birds of his kind. If not we have other birds to raise him at the hospital. thanks again everyone and wish us luck! I'm quite sure that it's a baby welcome swallow- try searching them.
Info on the welcome swallow: "The head and back is blue-black and the forehead, throat and chest is rufous. The underparts are dull white and the deeply forked tail has a row of white spots near the tip. The call is a twittering ‘twsit’. Welcome swallows eat invertebrates, caught on the wing. Mainly flies, including midges and blowflies, small beetles and moths. Breeding is between August and March." I used to live an hour from Brisbane before I moved back to Melb! I love the wildlife in Queensland! Hope he's ok :D Kudos for taking him in!
