I am new to this board and new to bird ownership. I have a Hahn's Macaw that was hatched November 5 2007 so that makes him...5 1/2 months old. He's been with us for about a month now.

Rocky gently beaks my ear, preens my hair, and loves to make sure there is nothing under my nails. The only time he has ever sort of hurt me is when he seemed to be trying to pry one of my fingernails from my finger!

We play-fight and he gets really really excited...I "sneak up on him" with my fingers all spidery saying, "I'm gonna get you" and then I quickly poke him all over. He chatters and screeches and snakes his head all over the place grabbing at my hands, but never bites hard...he knows we are playing.

One of his favorite things to do...I made him this fantastic toy that was so cheap and so easy! I bought a cheap fleece receiving blanket and cut it into 1-inch strips about 12 inches long. I then lay the strips even with each other and tied them together in the middle with a cotton rope to make them into sort of a big fleece octopus puffball. I hung this from his play stand and he loves nothing more than when I grab it and put it on top of his head and move it around...

He thinks it is hilarious to chase my fingers over the keyboard as I type.

He will let me turn him over on his back and wrestle with his feet.

He wants everything we are eating and is NOT shy about it. We usually put him in his cage during cooking and mealtimes because if we don't he's right in the middle of everything. We are concerned for his safety during cooking times of course.

In short he's amazing...as a dog person I never imagined a bird would be such an interactive, intelligent, personality-plus pet. I mean, I read all about it, but until you actually experience it, it's hard to understand, am I right?
