Talking First time at MAARS and I'm already in LOVE!!

Well, today was my orientation class at MAARS Parrot Rescue and I got to meet the flock. I knew they had a lot of birds but WOW! They have about 150 birds there at one time...that's a lot of cages! I fell in LOVE with a naked Too. She said hello to me when I walked by her cage and I kept talking to her and I could tell she was checking me out. Then she decided to follow me around, all while telling me Hello, I love you, and what a pretty bird (not sure about the last one). She is the cutest, sweetest little thing! Talk about noise though!
I just wanted to share, I go back again on Monday for the first time and I can't wait to see how it goes! I'm soooo looking forward to it!

NOW THAT is a good story. How long do you spend before a bird gets to pick you?? One already has - a nekkid one???

Yep, my little naked birdie! She sure did pick me! She almost made me re-think my "I would love a Too but know I couldn't handle the neediness" thought...ALMOST. Besides, she's a permanent resident there anyway.
They won't let you adopt until you've volunteered for at least 6 months so I'm sure I will have fallen in love with pretty much every bird there by then...and I'm sure I will bring one home as well. I have now put off my search for a larger bird just so I can wait and get one from there. Especially since they said what a waiting list they have to accept new birds. I can't wait to get to know the other birds too!!

It is in Minnesota but if you search for bird rescues in your state they probably have one. Also, Petfinder.com: Adopt a pet and help an animal shelter rescue a puppy or kitten. is a great way to find birds as well. A lot of rescues use it to list their animals since it is free.
I think she was a plucker but I'm not exactly sure. The woman was telling us about the birds but it was hard to hear over all the noise! I'm not sure how I'm going to choose but I have 6 months to a year to decide! I think I'm just going to let the bird pick me...seems like a better match that way. The funny thing is I have been looking for a bird for a while now and every time I thought I found one it didn't work out. I was getting frustrated but after being there today I now know the reason why I haven't found a bird yet...because it's waiting to find me!

Katie- I sent you a PM about two birds from MAARS. Please check your mailbox.

Doing rescue work is a very fullfilling thing to do. Thanks for volunteering.
