Talking Crimson-Belly News - I get to take him home soon!

We went to visit my CBC today, and to my amazement, not only is our little guy fully feathered now (look how he's grown in only a few weeks: Finally Found a Crimson-Bellied Conure! Now We Need A Name!)
but his red's almost all in! That normally doesn't happen until 6-12 months!

As we were leaving one of the store owners walked in and mentioned that he was actually ready to go, she hadn't been hand-feeding him for a week. This completely took me by surprise because he's only about 8 weeks old (is this normal?), and we didn't bring the carrier, and we haven't repainted the rooms yet (so we don't have to paint while we have the bird - we made the mistake of painting our apartment walls red...), so I asked her to hold onto him for a week or two until we were sorted (and the fumes are gone.)

Our visit started out a bit rough, but when a few people left the store, he calmed down a lot and actually got curious and started enjoying the tickles. Still nameless until we find out the gender for sure (but he seems like a boy to me!), but here are the pics. He's a lot bluer than the camera shows, I don't know why but it took all his blue colour out. His cheeks are bright green edged with blue, his head and back of neck are all strongly blue-tinged, and his back and wings are a mix of blues and greens, with very little of that olive colour the pics show. I'll try to fix that in the next set of pics.

I made the mistake of trying to show his crimson belly colour to the camera and got quite a pinch for my stupidity! Serves me right!

Smile Congrats On Your Crimson!

Hi, I have a Crimson-bellied male named Chico and he is about two and a half months. I am still hand-feeding twice a day but he is also on Zupreem, Roudybush, some pellets, fresh veggies and fruits daily also, millet, Avicake and Nutriberries because he just kinda picks at these foods. I've included a couple of pics and your Crimson looks a bit larger than Chico... are you sure 'he's' only eight weeks old? I didn't think they got the red chest until about a year. I have a friend who's Crimson's parents plucked her chest feathers so when they grew in they were red at a very young age. Blue

My Crimson...

Well, I sure hope it's a Crimson! I wouldn't want to think I got 'messed with' when I bought him. I didn't get to see him until the day of purchase because the breeder was so far away. His coloring every place else on his body is right on as far as I've seen from other pics. Oh my goodness... now I'm beginng to wonder. Oh... just call me Blue

Blue, yours does look like a CB, I wouldn't worry too much. That's what I don't get about Potential Parrot - he's already feathered red. He was the only CB they had, 2 clutches died on them, and he's still feathering so I know he hasn't had a molt yet - plus I visited him a few weeks ago when he was mostly a fuzzy blob, and it certainly seems the same bird. I've never heard of a bird weaning in 7-8 weeks though... another part of the reason I decided to leave him there for a couple of extra weeks, just to make sure. Maybe I'll start a thread on it though....

Courtz - they've done the DNA test, just waiting for the results (some time next week). Do you guys think male or female? Blue, is yours definitely male?
