oh so quiet birds........

It was unusually quiet in my apartment today. Even to the point of creepy. No chittering from Cricket or Benji. Zoey wasn't calling out to me. Sophie wouldn't even make a peep while I was doing dishes. The landscaper was out side doing a little painting on the exterior of the building but people out there is normal.
I was in and out of the apartment about a half dozen times and not a single peep!! Nor were they being their energetic selves either.........

Its amazing how even our indoor birds are wired into what is going on outside. As I had noticed it was a bit more quiet there too............... then I saw him. So I ran as fast as my fat butt would take me to get my camera so I could get a picture of this guy!!!

can you see him?

how about now?

he decided he didn't want me taking pictures him so he flew off and I followed.......

well I guess he figured I ruined his happy hunting for today so he went back to the fields!

Wow,that is amazing that you got any of those pictures without him being scared and flying away. You are sure getting good with your camera. Thanks for sharing.

Jim,

I woke up last week to this awful sound outside!! This guy got a baby from a nest in the trees right outside my door. Indy was a nervous wreak because of the sounds the parents where making. What kind of bird is this? I haven't seen one here in LA. He looks the same as the one hanging out around your house today!

with in an hour.

This guy was looking babies here too. There are a lot of Starlings that nest around the aparment complex. As for what it is, I'm pretty sure its a Hawk. The smaller one, not a red tail. But I'm guessing there.

Thanks Jim - Not sure what kind of bird he got here - I tried to get a picture of them also but they were flying all around way to fast.

It's funny you say this because Indy has been afraid of something lately (I have a thread in the Budgie section about him being spooked.) and I haven't been able to figure it out - I wonder if this guy has been hanging out and Indy sensed it. Hmm....

We have those, or some kind here too. All the outside birds will be chattering and feeding in my bird feeder, and then all of a sudden, they all fly away. Then I see it. One time I went out with Whiteboy on my shoulder and saw a bigger one fly over my yard and land on a telephone wire. I held my hand over Whiteboy's back and went right back in. Whew! I'll be glad when I finally get an enclosure for my birds outside.

My eclectus Sunny lives outside and for the past couple of days there's been a hawk patrolling, circling around the area where Sunny's cage is. I'm sure he heard Sunny and is waiting for the chance to come get him. We've been keeping a close eye on him and we're in the process of building him an enclosure so we know he's safe from predators!

There's a guy on here who is into falconry and went on a trip recently. His BoP pics look similar to y'all's pics so I included a link to that thread. Maybe he could help you figure out what kind of bird it is.

Gonna be gone...
