My Aviary is almost completed

Will, our friend Plum and I worked on the aviary Friday and Sunday. Though not complete, its darn near done. We still need to wire the eaves, bolt the frame to the concrete pad and install the sunscreen. After that, all I need to do is vinegar wash the walls and hang the toys and other bird stuff. I hope to have the birds in by Wednesday. Its raining here today.

You can view a photo in the Aviary section of the Photo Album. This will only be used during the day from late spring through early fall. My birds are always brought in around 6 pm each evening before the mosquitos start. I never leave my birds out at night.

I wish. No, its plain old steel. That's why I have to vinegar wash it before the birds can go in. The stainless for that large and area would probably have been $1500 to $2000. I am very likely to do the next one in stainless, however.

I'm thinking the same thing Nancy, replacing all my cages with Stainless but is that going to be expensive & time consuming and do I sell the old ones to someone else whose hookbilled birds might have problems down the road from using them???? WHAT A DIELEMA :( !!!!!! .......Hmmmmmm, I guess I could just use them or sell them to people who will only put canaries and finches in them .

People, don't do what I did, if ya can in any way start off with Stainless Steel, please do so for the long run health of your birds or construct some kind of wood (untreated) and plexiglass avairy.

Well, I have very good news. I finally located a source for stainless steel wire in California and it comes in rolls of 100 feet for about $500. Of course, that doesn't include freight, but its a whole lot cheaper than I imagined.

I'll keep this up for now, but when it gets to looking nasty, its outta here.
