Please Help! 3 Macaws Listed on Craigslist - Syracuse, NY area

Please Help! 3 Macaws Listed on Craigslist - Syracuse, NY area

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I posted this under Macaws a week or so ago, but thought I should post here as well. I'm not sure if this guy still has the birds or if he found a home for them yet. Here is his # if you are interested: 315 -378-2299. If anyone can help, please do . . . sorry, this is long. There is a post on Craigslist - Syracuse, NY under pets I think dated April 14th, for an older gentleman that has 3 Macaws he needs to give up. We went to look at these birds and were appalled at what they are living in. There is one B&G (I think 8 yrs old), which we noticed his beak doesn't align, he said a Military Macaw, but the coloring looks like a Bluffon Macaw (Miltary crossed w/ B&G), and one Greenwing (4 years old). The size of their cages was fine, but they were absolutely disgusting. Have not been cleaned in I don't know how long. He said in the winter time he can't get the cages out to clean them, summer he usually takes them apart & steam cleans them. It would take days to clean these. He can't afford to feed them the pellets they should have, so they are basically on a sunflower seed mix. The birds themselves looked ok, have probably never been showered, but in general ok. They seemed friendly enough with him, don't appear to be abused. I believe the man loves his birds, but just doesn't know how to take care of them properly. I must say the place he lives in is a complete sh**hole. Crap everywhere. Plus when we went in the "bird room" there was a kerosene heater in there that he heats with. He also had one of those salomander heaters in the kitchen. The entire place smelled of kerosene, burns your nose, I can't imagine what it has done to the poor birds. Supposedly they were vet checked about a year ago. The hard part is he wants $1,000 each for the B&G and Bluffon (includes the disgusting cages), and $1,300 for the Greenwing. He's really not willing to budge much on the prices, he "needs" the money though. He's not willing to sell them w/out their cages. Unfortunately we are not able to pay $1,300 right now for the Greenwing which is the one we were interested in. If anyone is in the area and able to help that would be great. I just feel so awful for the birds.

I think you are scamming us. I've seen this exact same post a while back, so don't bother us with this.

Stories like these make my heart sink. I feel for them badly and if I could I would take them in a second. Hopefully someone can resuce these poor babies.

edit: I did not see the above post. If this is infact a scam then you are a very sad person.

Wow. I didn't realize that people on this board could be so rude. I'm sorry if you feel I am scamming anyone, why would I do that? THis wasn't to benefit me, I truly feel awful for these birds and wish I could've helped. I was hoping that maybe somebody on this board who lives in the Syracuse area would've been able to help. Obviously this is not the place to ask for help. If you would've called the phone number you would have reached the gentleman & could've asked if the birds were still available. I was only trying to help these beautiful birds. I'll be sure not to post or ask for anyone's help again on this forum. And I do hope that someone out there was able to to adopt these birds and give them a nicer life.

To dookiesmom, I am terribly sorry that you think I was rude because I asked if you were scamming us. I only did this because we had recently a raft of posts where they really WERE scamming us, and some people were seriously hurt by a loss of money and trust. All you needed to do was to answer that no, this was a real situation, where it was, that you had called the number to get in touch with the man who had the birds, and we could call you. Most of the scams were from Cameroon or some unknown place, and the birds were very unlikely to be for the prices posted. Again, I am sorry for the mistake! We don't mean to hurt anyone; just for the sake of clarity, the post was listed before exactly the same, without any indication that this was being done by the same person. It is unusual for such kind and caring efforts to be done without more real identification.

The birds were in need of great help -- are they still there and do you have any further information about them? Maybe you could PM the Moderator(s) with more info, in case someone can help. I am again very sorry for your feelings about all of this...

My computer was down right after I posted this, so I couldn't just quickly respond. It is a shame that people will scam, but I thought with listing all the detail that I had, & listing the person's phone # it would be obvious that it wasn't a scam, and someone could've just called the guy and talked to him. All the information I had was what I stated in my original posts, I tried to put everything in that I knew. And as noted, I said that I posted this before in the Macaw section. I just felt after seeing the conditions these birds were in I would reach out & see if anyone can help. I don't know the guy who has the birds, met him just the one time when we went to look. I don't know if the birds are still available, so if anyone is interested, they would have to call the # I listed and ask him. Thanks.
