Hi there
Your CAG will need 24/7 care and not that your parents wouldn't be a good choose you'll really have to think hard about his care. I have had several vacations where I cannot take my 2 with me. I opt to take them to a qualified boarder, and it is worth the 15.00 dollars a day to have peace of mind and still have relatives who don't feel obligated. People who look after parrots as a full time job is a much better alternative.

I would also go with the parents as they will be their for him all the time and he gets on with your dad so plenty of out time ..just re-inforce your worries and get them to PROMISE ...make a BIG list and I also agre with Christy that you should be taking him for visits now and maybe even leaving him overnight or for a week-end so he knows its O.K and you will be back ...Take all his favorite toys over his playstand cage and he will be fine ...Thats my opinion and what I would do anyway ..
Have a GREAT HOLIDAY.....

I am a petsitter

I am cross posting my answer so that people who are not members of ********** can read:

I vote to have the pet sitter come over. I am a professional pet sitter. I have insurance, and do larger birds.

Pro's of having a professional petsitter:

1. Would recognize diseases, injury, or behaviour problems.

2. Pet Sitters like myself have liability insurance, your neighbor does not.

3. Pet Sitters know how to interact with the bird. It is NOT just about feeding and watering.

4. Pets avoid high risk environments (your parents or a boarding facility) which may introduce contagious diseases.

5. Pets stay in a natural environment, reducing separation anxiety while keeping normal routines and eating habits.

Here is a link to my webpage. www.capital-courier.com Click on pet sitting and see what sorts of things you should look for in a pet sitter. Charges may seem high, but when you add in liability insurance, health insurance, gas, time spent driving, and car payments; it is an awesome deal!!!!!
