Craig,

Don't give up, I too lost a baby to the great out doors. I put up posters in pet stores, up and down the road on street signs and poles, put an ad in the paper, talked to neighbors ... I could not stop until I knew something one way or the other. Our outcome with our Paris wasn't good at all, but at least I knew.

I too didn't want to bring another bird into our home for fear the same thing would happen, but I took one look and was in love again with not one, but two more birds. Please don't give up your babies, you do deserve them and they need you.

You deserve Matilda and Lily more than anyone in the world. Keep looking- don't give up. There are amazing stories of pets who have gone missing for months- years- and finally returned to their owners... in a few cases, the owners had actually moved states and their pets still found them! Put up flyers, posters, put adds in the paper, offer a reward, call up vets and walk around the neighbourhood. If she has a favorite conure call, record it off the internet and walk around the street playing it. What ever you do, don't give up hope, or your other birds. My cockatiel (excellent flyer) has escaped the cage and gone outside at least three times, and I've always got him back in the end. Don't give up!

I know the feeling.Ten years ago I had this baby cockatiel that was raised by me.She was the sweetest bird ever.Anyway to make a long story short in two years I lost her and a budgie(both flew away even with the tiels wings clipped)
It took me ten years to try having birds again.I felt soooo guilty and bad and such a horrible bird owner. But I use it as a learning experience and am super careful with my birds now.Im so sorry that this had to happen I hope you forgive yourself faster then I did because good bird parents are hard to come by.And Im willing to bet your a really good bird parent.

I am new here and really don't know anyone, but I wanted to say to the OP please don't give up on the possible return of your poppy and don't give up on your others babies. I lost my congo grey to the outdoors about 6 months ago and was just devestated beyond anything, but as time went on I was able to deal with it. My baby never came back and I just pray she found a new family, but I know of many people who have lost fids and they have returned to them, so please don't give up hope and don't give up on your fids, they need you. My thoughts are with you and know exactly what you are going through. Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk.

Painful mistakes happen.
I kick myself at least once everyday because I allowed "Milkshake", a young not fully fledged Northern Cardinal that we were trying to raise, to have full access to the outside. It wasn't my idea- I would have preferred to wait till it's flying skills were better before I released it, but the Cardinal is a native North American bird & I had to follow the letter of the law. The bird always had to have free access to leave whenever it wanted.
That fateful day, Milkshake had gone over the fence & was exploring garden in the next-door-neighbor's yard. Tragically, poor little Milkshake was accidently crushed underfoot in some long grass by one of the guys shingling the neighbor's roof when he decended a ladder.

Don't give up looking.....
and for your other Fids sake, please don't rehome them....
I understand it's a very common kneejerk type reaction to the emotional pain, but I think you'd find afterward that it would be a case of "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" and you would end up hurting yourself worse in the long run.

Lilly & Matilda won't understand why if you did,
but they'll sure help you heal.

As the others have said, posters/flyers & ads posted around might help.

Hopes & prayers are with you for Poppy's safe return.
