How's it going Craig? I hope you are ok and have decided not to rehome your birds. (See above the many posts). Come back and let us know how you are? I'm sure we all have regrets about the way we have handled at least one of our animals circumstances - but just learn from these awful experiences. Our beautiful birds and other pets benefit greatly from people such as yourself that obviously take their responsibility very seriously.
Come back pleeeeeeease, |

:( I hope he's okay... I hope he at least read everyone's posts! Craig has a huuuuuge support group here. It's never easy losing someone you love, and I know it's BEYOND devastating, but he still has a couple of other sweethearts that want to be with their papa.
bah, you're in my thoughts Craig!

Craig, it happens to the best of us. While my husband and I were on vacation last month, our new 3 month old blue quaker escaped when the bird sitter came over to care for the birds. The old timers here know about my indoor aviary that is escape proof, but she wasn't in there. We had only had her 20 days and she wasn't ready to join the others so she was in a separate cage, she got out somehow and when the sitter opened the back door she was off like a flash. I know I shouldn't have bought a new bird that soon before a planned vacation but she was half the usual price and it was an impulse purchase. I would never dream of rehoming my other 15 birds. They love us and need us. I know your other birds need you too, please give them a chance.

Keep looking. I lost my bird just recently too and I am still looking. I put flyers on everyones mailboxes. I must have used about 1000 of them. Take an ad out in the paper. Go to 911 Parrot Alert- Lost & Found Parrot & Bird database, Report a Lost Bird or Found Bird. You will find out a lot----you would be surprised how many birds are found. |

OH PLEASE DONT GIVE UP! i had a client lose a GCC he got from me. he didnt tell me out of embarrassment. It flew into someones garage and they brought it into my shop. I recognized the band and after alot of work (finding out the guys name, it had bee awhile) I reunited the bird with his owner. Making a real long story short!! I had to pry there greedy hands off the bird who was banded BTW.
POST FLYERS ALL OVER, the grocery, all the vets, all the pet stores !! That right there is the first place people who find a bird go for help and supplies when they find a bird. Keep an eye on you local Craigs list and put an ad there too!!! Ask the pat store clerk to alert you to the possibility of anyone saying they found abird and want to buy stuff for it. Get the clerk to "ask questions". If they know you loved your bird they will help. Then take it as a lesson learned to keep your current fids safe - If you refuse to clip then get beaded curtains for your doorways and do lots of other things to prevent escape like creating double entryways and making rules about one door closes before the other door opens. If your home is going to be a free flight aviary then it must be MADE like a free flight aviary or you need to clip for your birds safety.

PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP HOPE!
There was a conure that had gotten loose a few towns over from me. Try as they might, the family couldn't get her to come down from the trees and the neighbors' rooftops... but about a week later, the conure showed up on her humans' vehicle! Miracles do happen. Plaster your neighborhood, local vet's offices, pet supplies and feed stores w/ posters of Poppy. List details on the various missing parrot resources given to you here and on Craigslist. Do not give up hope. Unfortunate things happen to the best of us -- please don't be so hard on yourself! Best wishes and please update when you can, -e-

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts and comments.
I just havn't been able to use these boards too much, they seem to just remind me of Poppy. I've logged in and pretty much logged out straight away. No good news to share, but it does seem that while asking about there is aslo what sounds like a sun conure living in the area. I just hope that if Poppy hasn't been found by someone who's decided to keep her rather than return her... she's made friends with this sun conure. The same night that Poppy flew away I just felt like I needed to spend that evening even closer to Lily. Lily was parent raised and came from a breeder directly. She was aggrassive to start with, but after a few weeks she was fine to fly to and from me on my call (inside), step up and she's always been happy to sit on my shoulder... but thats it. No scritching or cuddles. That night I let Lily out and she came up and burried into my t-shirt and let me stroke her head, back, belly, under her wings. She'll now lay on her back while on my shoulder and she's tried to feed me twice. It felt like she knew I needed her. The local avian vet knows, but I don't have much faith in the local pet store. When I first got Poppy they had a GCC in store and I mentioned that I'd just got a cinnamon GCC while talking to the manager about the GCC in store. The manager told me 'there is no such thing'. Also just the other day I was there buying toys for Lily and heard the sales assistant call the senegal that they have right now a 'little b@st@rd'... so I told her that she should rethink being a pet shop assistant. I'm in the UK and I'm pretty sure that we don't have anything like a parrot 911... anyone from the UK able to varify? Again, all the kind words have meant more than you know or even more than I expected them to coming from strangers online. Craig |

Craig-
Thanks for giving us an update!!! Unfortunately, I'm not in the UK, but this was a search result I had found when looking for a parrot 911/spca organization... RSPCA || Utility I hope it helps you out if you haven't found it already, you and your gang are in all of our thoughts, as well as Poppy:) Take care!

craig - so happy that you got back to us! was looking everyday hoping to hear something from you. we may be "strangers on the internet" but our love for our "fids" makes a family in some kind of way....
they say "time heals all wounds" if that's true, i hope in time it will heal yours. i'm so glad Lily is comforting you in some way. it's amazing how birds can sense our emotions. please keep in touch.
