.... I already know that, I'm new to breeding not bird owning.

But I was really just asking this question because just think about how sucky it would be to lose a baby bird from lack of experience... I would be mortified!
Well if you guys think that eventually (when I actually start breeding) that I should just go for it... than I'll do that.
That actually makes me happy :) because I don't have to wait as long as I thought to actually do it.

another VERY important thing when it comes to breeding queens....you must get two unrelated birds from completely different people, even if it means you have to buy babies and let them grow up together. i know of so many people who have bought "proven pairs" only to have their babies come out with birth defects and a high motality rate. they had to repair the birds and after they were repaired, the babies were healthy. too many queen breeders will take a brother and sister and pair them up to sell to you as an unrelated proven pair.

Yeah... I know of two different breeders of queens around me... so I'll either buy from them or buy one and ship another to me!

That's why I don't want to breed love birds, don't get me wrong they're great birds but just not for me, thats why i want to start with princess parrots and green cheek conures cos they're gorgeous. Then if i am confident with them i would add more but keep them too. Princesses are pretty cheap here but they're so cute and funny. One tried to feed matches when she was little LOL they're just hilarious and so cute. I already own a green cheek so i know i love them. Plus I want to breed them anyway.

Good luck MicahEspudo- I made soooo many mistakes when I bred birds, that I still kick my self. How could I be so stupid!? Anyway, do you know about egg candling? I did that quite alot, not properly though- with gastly consequences, with budgie eggs. I did it today with some chicken eggs that might be hatching in a few weeks.
Courtney- Breeding Princesses is a great bird to breed, since their numbers aren't that high in the wild (correct me if I'm wrong). I used to own a Princess that we found and caught near our beach house. Poor thing was so tired. We called him Beachy (I said Peachy, but...) My dad (who I didn't live with) kept her at his house and let her pretty much rule everything. She spent most of her time on the curtain rails and I don't think she even went into her cage to sleep- just to eat. She never got tame, but had the most beautiful call. There a humongous line of bird poop under the curtain rail- I don't know how often he would clean it :/ Every two weeks? :O
Now that I think about it (and I haven't for years) this wouldn't have been so good for his asthma! In the end, dad gave him to me, but his cage fell down outside and he escaped. He was just learning to step up :( Oh I miss him so much.

A question about Alexandrines

hello im new to forums and i have a question about my alexandrines.

I live in australian nsw sydney and i have a pair of alexanderine parrots and i was just wondering if they will breed i know the enclosure is big enough and that they should breed in spring but are there any do's and dont's?

The female sleeps infront of the nest box sometimes is this a good sign?

i hope someone can help me because im hoping to raise a companion bird from the pair.

and also is there anything i should know to encourage breeding and if they are difficult to breed .and yes i know how to tell the difference between the two so im certain they are a pair.

thank you

I"m just wondering if this string is a joke? Most breeders I know, who are in breeding for the love of the game, do this full time. Not a one of them is 'making any money out of it', and they all have to resort to other means, like operating a bird store, to make ends meet. I know this is a very challenging and time consuming passion with lots of heartbreak and frustration. All those birds produced have to go somewhere, and the demand for parrots by responsible people is not that strong (RE: the backlog at rescue groups to take birds in and all the birds languishing in pet stores) And for the folks encouraging this type of passing fanciful thinking, how much are you giving each year to parrot rescue groups? This is by no means a child's past time. And only one comment that you need a federal permit to have these birds???
