Talking

These are the best pics I could get of them right now. They look big but feathers can be deceiving, they are TINY. They are about the size of a 9 day old tiel baby. They are all hopping around the aquarium now and I'm going to have to figure something out cuz they keep trying to get through the glass. Hopefully they will start eating real food soon!! One thing I wasn't expecting is how much they STINK!!!! One poop and it smells awful. I clean the tank every hour all day long and that helps until they poop again Oh well, they are cute little guys!

And here's the trouble maker!! First one to hop on out today! Almost fell about 3 feet onto the sidewalk at the time too

You know, I often see starlings and mockingbird fledgelings that are unable to fly but are 1/2 the size of the parent and yet hopping around after the parents to bug them for more food -this MAY be what they are all getting ready to do... It may be a few more weeks before they'd be ready to go anyways, even if they can eat on their own. I know you need to teach them how to find food - another reason the babies follow the parents as best as possible, to learn how to hunt for worms and bugs! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, you are on your own with that one...did I forget to mention how much they STINK, lol. I feel bad because they are all poopy on their feet and smelly but they are so small I don't want to get them wet.

I'm thinking that your Grandpa owes you another present....a day fidsitting while you go and do something nice and relaxing. They are very cute, what a great job you're doing.
If I lived nearby I'd love to help - but am definitely too far away!!

I agree but it won't happen, lol. My Grandma has been paying for all their food and stuff except for the vet appt. cuz she didn't see the point in bringing wild birds to the vet. My vet gave me a great deal on it though (only $30 for EVERYTHING!!) so that's no biggie. I'm going to have to try and tape some paper around the tank today cuz all night long the little troublemaker was trying to go through the glass. It was a constant tap, tap, tap every few hours. I wish there was a way I could know if they come back once I let them go. I have been trying to handle them very little and don't hold them at all so hopefully they will figure out how to eat and find food. I had a dream last night that they were out in the yard hopping around and there was a hawk circling overhead. That's my biggest fear. We live on a farm and we have a TON of hawks around here so I refuse to leave them alone. I have no idea how I am going to keep an eye on all 4 of them when they are all running around!!!

Here are some better pictures from when they were outside today. One figured out how to get in the rhododendron bush and just hung out for a while. To be honest, I think he was scared to try and get down since I had to take him out. I'm going to try and get some chicken wire so I can build a little pen for them to be in. Only 2 of them were hopping around today and I couldn't keep track of everyone!

Look at me!!!

OMG i would not be able to let them go, just cause im positive they would end up being easy meals for who knows what out there. you couldnt possibly show them where to find food out in the wild, and what not to eat, like the parents do :( you are taking great care of them, but there are just some things humans cant do for baby birds.
