You are so sweet to go digging for worms late at night haha! I hope all the birds make it.
Are the babies at your place or your grandfather's? Wild birds usually have mites and other yucky things that would love to hitch a ride on you, then infest your flock. Remember to wash well and change clothes after handling the babies! |

The best guess I have from reading on the net is that they are about a week old. They will actually start weaning at 15 days so they don't have too long to go. I can say I have now realized why you see birds outside running around all the time...they feed the babies every 15 minutes for 12 hours a day. Poor birds. The birds are at my house and believe me, they were thoroughly inspected before they came in. That's why the nest is gone even though it looked clean. I haven't seen any creepy crawlies on them but I'm being very careful.

Well, it's been 24 hours now and they are doing great. I called the wildlife rehab. and no one answered.
I left a message and haven't heard anything back. I even called the Raptor Center at the UofM and they wouldn't take them so but to feed them a mix of parrot handfeeding formula, baby food beef and baby food applesauce so that's what they have been getting and it seems to be doing ok. It's funny cuz in a way they are a lot easier than baby tiels but the every 15 min. feedings are INSANE! They eat really quick though, it takes 5 min. to feed all 4 of them and the food doesn't need to be heated. I am worried because it turns out you aren't supposed to feed baby birds earthworms because of a parasite. I guess it can be treated if they start showing symptoms but still, I feel bad. So far so good!![]() |

It's actually illegal to keep them as pets over here. Actually, it's illegal for me to have them in my house right now
unless you have a permit which is very hard to get. It's like a felony and a $500 fine....but what else am I supposed to do? Let the coyotes or raccoons get them?![]() |

felony? thats retarded!! i have no idea if its illegal to keep them in texas, but after i raised that baby (i was like 10 and knew nothing about felonies or even wildlife parks) he was very bonded to me and had no idea how to survive out in the wild, there was no way he would make it, so he really was better off being a pet.
