Talking clear bird carrier

We are looking into buying a clear bird carrier. The first time I saw one was on land of vos and I loved it, (the fact it had an ekkie in it had nothing to do with it LOL). I contacted the website and my husband has contacted someone also (I don't know whether he has contacted the same people), but my husband told me the people he contacted said they sell them for about $69.00 American for a single carrier (I think my hubby said that included freight to here, but I will check with him tonight), but if 3 or more are ordered, then the price drops to about $57.00 American. I was wondering if anyone in Australia wanted to buy one. I would probably have to freight them to here, then post on to you, so there would be an additional postage cost within Australia. if anybody is interested please pm me. I will still buy one if no-one else wants one, but thought I would ask the question. i can't be the only person in Australia who wants one of these. I take Skye with me to a lot of places, so I think it would be wonderful. Check the link to see what they are.

I've read several places on the internet that those carriers are very unsafe as they heat up extremely fast even on days that aren't too warm to start with and quite a few people have lost their birds that way. Don't know any specifics, but I do know they aren't recommended.

My carrier is a enclosed carrier with two large vents in the front and back to provide adequate ventilation for my bird plus the ability to see outside and the bonus is that it keeps them from catching a chill or overheating. The shape is similar to acrylic ones, but is fabric covered.

I worry about the clear ones because they could act like a glass allowing too much heat to build up.

They are still dangerous, but you all do as you like. Hope your birds survive them.
Good luck,

I won't use them because I have heard the same thing. I live in hot sunny Florida. All it would take was my car breaking down on the way to the vets in dead summer. Plus my carriers double as evacuation cages for the smaller birds.
After a hurricane with no AC the acrylic carriers can be a death sentence.

Common sense obviously should be applied. Used properly (as in most things) I can't see a problem.

I have several acrylic carriers...And when used with common sence...they are fine. I am not in a *hot* area of the country, and I would be more careful in the summer.....but with ANYTHING you have to make sure of proper ventilation......

We live in a hot climate. Can reach 45 degrees in summer and averages about 24 degrees in winter going as low as 1 degree in mornings in winter. I guess i will stay with the dog/cat carrier for now. How do I look up "wingapago". Guess I will just "google" it. I would hate to lose a bird, just because I thought I was doing a "nice" thing for her.
