should i buy this pair?

i have seen for sale an 07 bred pair of sun conures (8 months old). unrelated and DNA sexed for $700 AUST.. i might be able to get him down on price since they are not tame AT ALL

should i buy? i know IF they are gonna breed they won't for a few years, but i'm not looking to raise babies until I'M ready to have babies myself :) (my plan is to start hand raising when i have kids and can't work a day job. we'll have a mortgage by then and i'll need to be bringing in money somehow)...

i already have a sun so i know what they're like and i have experience with birds and sometime this year am going to learn all about hand-raising and feeding babies.

i don't know.. i'm really tempted and it sounds like a good price, but i want to know what questions i should be asking the guy so i know i get the best deal possible... can anyone help??

also, i have been reading a LOT on the pro's and cons and i nderstand there's a lot of things that can go wrong and am happy to keep any babies myself if i cna't find homes, although in victoria there aren't many breeders and i'm pretty sure i could sell them so easily! plus i work in a pet store and have contacts in others so i have a foot in the door already..

i just want to know if there's something i should be asking this guy.... and if there's any reasons why i SHOULDN'T get them..

It will be hard to get him to lower the price. He knows they are not tame, good breeders are rarely tame. They could breed easy by next year. According to Aussie prices that sounds good. Remeber, breeders will also be VERY LOUD and watch your fingers!!

the only thing i would really ask for are dna certs to make sure they are male and female, and any past medical history and other general history questions, along with diet questions. i would also ask him where he got the birds from to make sure they arent related.

Make sure you have his number and get them tested at a vet (new bird test) and make sure he will take them back if they have any illnesses. I would also try lower the prices. Although that is pretty good, breeding pairs are about $850 so $700 is pretty good. Hand reared babies are about $450 ea. But yeah $700 is pretty good but if you can get them cheaper, do it lol. But a bird fair would be a good place to find cheaper ones. My green cheek was $70 (p/r) but they were selling some for $50 and pairs for $100. I think there were suns for about $300.

Where are you getting them from? You can give the babies to me if they don't sell... ;D ...Joking...
I can lend you a good book on choosing the right breeding parrots... actually it's a lorikeet book but it relates to any bird.

As a basis, before you get them; gather all information you can about their history- parents, DNA testing, veterinary bills ect, ask about their feeding schedules, breeding habits and what they are being fed already, it is very important to have the same nest box they are used to, or they'll take even longer to settle in, make sure they have all four toes and nails on each foot and have no deformities, bright eyes, clear nostrils, upright posture, no sign of keel bone sticking out, inquisitive, active, clean vent, well groomed feathers (unless molting) and make sure you get a written guarantee from the previous owner. OK! When you've got them, get a fecal sample off to be analysed, take them to be vet checked and make sure the aviary is ready for them as soon as they're home! If the food they have previously been fed is different from what you want to feed, gradually change the old to the new diet over a period of two weeks.
I want to breed my tiels when I get an aviary for them... what would you think of swapping a baby sun for a baby tiel? ;D (Only half joking that time!)
