"Crying" over wing

Hello all,
My 'tiel Buddy over the last bit has had a sore wing. His flight feathers are growing back, and the side that he's been "whimpering" over is the side thathas a noticable amount more of flight feathers.

Well, awhile ago when Buddy whimpered about this(about two years ago), I questioned this on another and a highly experienced lady, said it was most likely just a misplaced feather(Feather moved into the wrong direction, in one of Buddy's flights, and falls). Well,I think this is exactly whats happened, because he still has a "sore" wing occasionally, but it usually goes away in time(preening), when Buddy preens the feather back in place. Well, Buddy's been crying for awhile now about one of his wings, and I assume its a misplaced feather again.

So, it did seem to have gotten better over the past week, but Buddy did another fly/fall and he's been crying again.

What would you do in this situation? I'm thinking about taking him to get his wings clipped. Maybe the mis-lodged feather will be cut, therefore not causing a problem?

I've heard its very difficult for a tiel to break a wing(or something of the sort), so I am just assuming its a mis-lodged feather.

Thanks in advance,
Steven

I know that feathers can become misplaced. It happens to my tiels every so often, but usually they flap it back into place or preen it back quickly without a lot of crying.

I think I would take Buddy to the vet for his clipping so that they can check the wing out to see if there is something more than a misplaced feather. If it is misplaced and does not go back into place easily, perhaps the vet can help.

I am not certain that clipping will help the misplaced wing.

Good luck.

I would also advise getting him checked at the vets it may be something completely different.....Poor little guy must be in pain...Let us know what the vet says...

Thanks for the advice you two. Buddy's wing does seem to be a little bit better, but I'll schedule an appointment anyways :icon_smil

I've had some birds, that after clipping, their wings would quiver, as they were not use to having clipped wings, and it bothered them. This has been the same with Clyde, though at first he had onyl one wing clip. With both now clipped, he has been doing it less frequently, however, he still is able to fly to a certain degree (even able to fly up).
