I didn't clip my boy - he's a happy flighted pink chicken! But beware the dreaded 'Birdhat' syndrome. Mine adores my head... probably because he knows he's not supposed to land on it. I think it's cute that he'll fly from room to room looking for me uttering his "where'd you go?" chirp.
I'm always careful to keep him in his cage when cooking's happening, and I make sure no doors are opened when it's out of cage time. Also, he's under constant surveillance when out (if not me, my bf watches Luen). Galahs are cheeky, and you can't look away for a second! Personally I don't like clipping, but that's a personal choice. Even with a bloody scalp from an excited birdy's claws, I don't regret leaving him flighted. I don't know if Luen will ever go outside with me without staying in his cage, but I would never consider going out without a leash or harness on him. One mistake's all it takes, and RB2s are like ADHD children - they don't even have to be scared, they just have to see something shiny/amusing it seems! You have a beautiful little boy - Luen's starting his first moult, so soon he'll lose those little greyish feathers on his chest soon. I honestly think I'll miss them! Adorable ![]() Out of curiosity, did your breeder specify whether Mickey/Apollo was an eastern varient or western? Eastern are a brighter 'raspberry' hue, but westies like my Luen stay very pale and have a less 'blocky' crest... I don't know how to explain it better than that. I ask because in that pic Mickey/Apollo LOOKS pale, but those are his baby feathers, and I think he has a little flashburn from the camera too. Just curious - most US RB2s are the eastern variety (westies are less common and generally people prefer the brighter pink) - I'm yet to meet someone else with another western variant.

Galah...HIDE THE CABLES!!! Lots go for cables. And just on my experience, if there is anything you dont want them to touch, don't let them see it. Anything metal. Even when you think you're safe they will pull something from somewhere so don't leave them unnattended.

Don't take your eyes off him for a second. I did once, and had a crackling electric cord connector that had been perched on and pooped in! Plus numerous things chewed and eaten...
I saw two wild eastern galahs (or RB2s!) preening each other on an electricity line today. It was so cute! I juuusstt missed out on getting a picture when one took off!

Oh you Aussies! I'm so jealous! I can't even imagine what it's like to have those birds in your backyard all the time...eating your crops, destroying your house!:) They are so wonderful though.
As for the Galahs being destructive, those white ones are so much worse! Any of you deal with those trecherous BE2s?:) |

![]() Galahs and corellas (bare-eyeds) often flock together to destroy things as a group effort, but on the whole I find them less irritating that the yellow-tail black 'toos... The black 'toos seem to AIM for you when they drop things! I think we have long-billed corellas here... can never remember what type it is we have in West Aus. One of the best talkers of any aussie bird species I've seen, but I find galahs more cuddly :} Thank goodness I don't live in an area with Sulfur Cresteds. They're sweet enough, but after going to Queensland for just a month I was already tired of their noise... and they destroyed everything I left outside.

Muchi,
I do not know what variant he is, I did not even think to ask the breeder! Maybe you can tell me. Here is a picture of the beautiful breeding parents, I think you'll be able to tell the coloration from this: ![]() I think they are so beautiful. Here is a picture of the babies: ![]() Let me know what variant of Galah they are, I would be really interested! Thanks, Ashley

OMG they are beautiful!
Echo is finally fully flighted with the exception of one feather on each wing yet ![]() He is getting better at landing where he wants to. It's a learning process for them. I have just started clicker training him and also use an avatar harness outside. By doing so my plan is to not only have him used to being outside (therefore not freaking out and flying off if he accidentally gets outside.) I am teaching him to fly to me on command. Therefore if he does get out he not only knows where he is he will come to me with hand signals and the clicker.. He is also paper trained and knows where he is allowed to poop and not. So he doesn't poop all over my house either.. ![]() All of which take time and daily working with him..
