feeding egg shell

OK I read that a lot of people will feed the egg shell to there birds along with the egg, I usually scramble Monty’s egg do I just crunch the shell up and throw it in when I cook it? (He loves his scrambled eggs :P)

PS if it matters Monty is an African grey.
Thanks
Michelle

Michelle:

You really have to be certain that it cooks a while to kill germs. Usually scrambling is a pretty quick procedure. Eggshells are fairly often covered in salmonella germs.

Thanks for the tip Outlaw; this is why I ask before I do LOL

So you just crunch them into little pieces or leave them in big chunks? Or either way is fine?

Thanks again,
Michelle

Michele:

I usually soak the eggs in a little GSE and water while the pan heats up. Then I rinse them off, and crack the eggs. It doesn't matter what size pieces you have, but I just like to crunch them in my hands. Its fun.
