I highly recommend as a must have:
"Lets Celebrate Pet Birds" by T.J. Lafeber D.V.M. This book, to me, presented things in a way that most books didn't. It starts out simple enough for a beginner and ends up giving more insight into what birds are than other books. Once the basic requirements are met (cage size, diet, etc.) I think understanding birds is most important in making them happy. I think it should be a first book for every bird owner. On Sunday I ordered both Melinda Johnson's book on clicker training and the clicker from Amazon.com. Can't wait to get them. I began recall training about a week ago. |

I am reading "A guide to companion parrot behaviour" by Mattie Sue Athan and it is pretty good, very good for beginners.

One that helped me x1000 was "Parrots: A complete Pet Owners Manual, by Barrons."
Another one by Barrons was "Lories and Lorikeets- A Complete Pet Owners Manual" An old cockatiel one I got when I was 11- "The ABC's of cockatiels." They're the only ones I've ever bought and needed. The parrots one is the best by far, and I highly reccommend it to everyone!

A lot of good books have already been mentioned and I own several of them. For me, the best book that I recommend to people is The Companion Parrot Handbook by Sally Blanchard. It's filled with great stories, has lots of helpful information and presents a wonderful philosophy on life with companion parrots. To get an idea about her writing style, here is a link to a number of her articles: Articles by Sally Blanchard
I hope this is of some interest or help to people. |

I agree that Mattie Sue Athan is good. I know a few people who'd recommend her books infact.
I reckon Barrons are pretty good on a whole and have a few of their books on specific species and other pets
