Cheapest Place to Buy Cages Online?

Hello All,

I need to buy a bird cage before I bring my new Galah Cockatoo home. I have been searching Craiglist but have yet to find anything suitable to my situation. I would love to buy a used cage, but barring that possibility where could I get the cheapest cage online?

I am a college student and for that reason would like to save the most money as possible... but don't worry, I'll get a suitable cage for the bird's size!

Does anyone have any advice? I especially would love an online cage to have it shipped... I kinda have a small car to fit a cage in...

Thanks,
Ashley

Hehe, as a fellow college student I feel your pain! My birds are the one thing I don't skimp on - I'll eat ramen all week long, but god forbid they not get a new toy when I go to the pet store!

I personally like Bird Cages 4 Less - Bird Cages, Aviaries - Free Shipping. Ebay is pretty good too, but make sure you check the shipping costs first! And keep checking craigslist - that's where my two cages came from, and it saved me a TON of money (which I promptly spent on a bazillion toys and treats).

Good luck!

I presonally like Kijiji the best, it is just like craigslist, but I tend to find more stuff on kijiji in my area so I go there before craigslist. Online stores that I really like that is reasonably priced is americas-pet-store.com and queencitypets.com and both have free shipping on there cages. I have ordered from both of those stores with excellent results. Good luck and happy cage shopping!!!

If you can look up where and when a bird fair is going to be near you it might be well worth it. I just went to the Atlanta bird fair and bought an HQ cage for 180 dollars and it normally runs 300 dollars online. one of those 70 inch tall corner cages for macaws that normally run $550 to $600 before shipping on the internet was selling for $350 @ the bird fair. It was worth the gas money to go to that show..........LMB

Heh heh, we are the same way with our birds, when we get home after going out we get the "well what did you get for us" look from three beaks, it's too funny, Yep, they are spoiled, I think I buy them more toys then my own kids, i think the kids are starting to get jealous.........LMB

eBay - eBay - eBay ....

Even when you consider some of the sellers are charging very high shipping rates the end cost (including shipping) is typically much, much less than what you would pay retail for the same cage.

Those high shipping costs are just the sellers way of trying to "keep" all the money from the sale rather than lose it in the "selling fee's" charged to them by eBay. You see... eBay's fee's charged to people are based on the selling cost and that doesn't include the cost of shipping. So sellers, in an attempt to keep the selling fees as small as possible make the cost of the cage much much lower than what it could ever really possibly sell for and swing that cost into the shipping charges. While this is against eBay's policies (because it means eBay isn't getting the higher fee's based on the full selling cost), I still maintain that it's the cheapest place to get a cage even including some of the high shipping costs.

I've purchased every cage in my home from eBay saving me literally 1000's of dollars. My 6ft(Width)x3ft(Deep)x6ft(Height) double cage with dual cage dividers would have cost me retail of almost $1200.00 after s/h. However, i got the cage from eBay including shipping for only $550.00. My 4ft(Width)x3ft(Deep)x7ft(Height) cage retail is almost 1000.00 and I got it for 400.00 from eBay including shipping. Several other's I own I could mention, but those two are the biggest savings/differences. I estamate eBay has saved me easily over $2K - So don't let the hype of abnormal shipping rates scare you. You'll find that the typical cost + shipping on eBay is still cheaper than retail costs + shipping from just about anywhere else. Yes you can occationally run into the rare situation where you can't get it cheaper on eBay. But that's typically very rare (and in most cases is only because you may not be looking in the right place on eBay).

So I'll keep saying it - and local shops and other internet stores really hate me for saying it; but I'm always about saving money, as it doesn't grow on trees - "eBay". It will beat 'em every time, just be a smart shopper/eBayer - 1000's of different cage styles, types and sizes.

That's my suggestion... Other non-eBayers might disagree - do some research of your own though and you'll see what I mean. Good luck!

I think when your looking for a cheap cage you get what you pay for.You have to ask yourself does it have metal toxicity that will harm your parrot?Where's it made?China? With all the problems that have been coming up
with cages etc.I'm in a fix too we have quite a flock. We went to Kings Cage they have an economy line and it's safe for our birds. For some that may not be doable.

Hello All,
Thanks for the advice. I went to a bird fair in San Diego last Saturday and purchased a beautiful cage for $300. It is 38 by 36 by 72... or something like that. Anyway it is very large, and the woman at the fair told me it would be more than large enough for a rose-breasted cockatoo. It also had wooden cabinets underneath to keep my stuff!

I love it, thanks to all of you for your advice!
