Male or Female? Easy and inexpensive testing
http://www.avianbiotech.com/SexingCenter.htm
I have seen many posts over the last few weeks where people wondered if their bird was a male or a female. I just wanted to post, for those of you that don't know, that avian biotech offers a DNA sexing service that is fairly inexpensive; they will send you the sample kits for free. I have used both their feather testing (chest or wing feathers) and their blood CARD testing (clip a nail for a drop of blood). Both are rather painless or non -upsetting to the bird, and you can even have the results emailed to you. They also do disease testing. Payment (Check, Money Order, Visa, or Master Card) must accompany all samples. The price of each sample depends on the total number of samples sent during the year period. Below is a breakdown of individual prices as well as some yearly discount rates. Special veterinarian and bulk rates are also available. Please e-mail or call 800-514-9672 to see if you qualify for these special rates. Please contact your local avian veterinarian for assistance. Always consult a veterinarian about possible treatment or disease control options for sick birds. Avian DNA Sex Identification -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Test Code DNA Sexing Test Schedule Cost Blood Sexing (per sample) $19.50 - - $17.50 (after 50 samples)* Feather Sexing (per sample)$24.50 - - $22.50 (after 50 samples)* Eggshell DNA Sexing (per sample) - -$24.50 - $19.50 * Price per sample within a 52 week period of time.
