9th Annual San Diego Bird Festival Feb 9-13 2005
http://www.sandiegonaturefestivals.o...fest/index.htm
The San Diego Bird Festival’s goal is to get you outside, in search of many different species of birds, and having fun along the way with great people. We are back for our ninth year and we are pleased to provide something special for everyone. San Diego County has beautiful foothills, oak woodlands, and desert dunes. In addition to our coastal location there are several suburban lakes, riparian streams, and salt marshes. These habitats attract many species of birds, and those of us who follow them. Our core trips return this year. Trips to the Anza-Borrego Desert and the Laguna Mountains will take you in search of species like LeConte’s Thrasher and White-headed Woodpecker. Our Southern California Specialities trip will be out in search of the California Gnatcatcher and Belding’s Savannah Sparrow, as well as other local standouts. We will travel south of the border in our three-day pre-event trip to Ensenada, Mexico. Additionally, if you want to see the Black-vented Shearwater and Xantus’ Murrelet, we offer two ocean going pelagic trips sponsored by Swarovski Optik. There is nothing like hearing wingbeats and watching shorebirds forage on the mudflats when you take one of our half-day kayak trips on San Diego Bay. We are also offering two new trips this year. The first goes north into Orange County to visit the wetlands of Upper Newport Bay and San Joaquin Marsh. Our second new trip will visit the San Pasqual Valley and nearby Lake Hodges. Even the locals are clamoring for a spot on these trips. Our Keynote Speaker this year is Ted Floyd, editor of Birding magazine. He will share his understanding of “Current and Future Trends in Birding”, as well as present a class on the Warblers of North America. Our Exhibit Fair returns again this year, with ample opportunity to test out those binoculars or scopes you have been eyeing. Art, photos, and birding-related gear abound at the Fair on both Saturday and Sunday. If you have children in your nest, bring them out to the Little Salt Marsh Schoolhouse on Saturday afternoon. They will enjoy making a craft or learning about the interesting natural history of shorebirds and herons. We look forward to seeing you at the 2005 San Diego Bird Festival, there is so much to see and do, and we know you will enjoy your visit with us and with the birds of the San Diego region. Nature Festivals of San Diego County is looking for volunteers.
