Bird Feathers

OK, I have a quick question. A friend has a B&G Macaw, the feathers are all dull and dry looking. What is she doing wrong? I can't help her even though I have a B&G because my baby is perfect in every way. I just love him so he/she is spoiled. I am not sure what all she does for her baby but something isn't right. Thanks in advance for your help.

She may want to spray him down either in the shower or with a spray bottle. It could also be diet, lighting. I would ty getting him wet first and see how he looks when he dries. There is a spray that has aloe vera in it that is suppsed to be good for their feathers especially at this time of year when everyone seems to be molting.

You can get Aloe vera Juice from your pharmacist and its not expensive. Mine had to order it but it was there in just a few days and I mixed about one to four with water. Dionized water is best for stuff like that. Tap water and spring water have minerals that can build up on feathers and dont mix as well with the juice.

Has she taken her bird in to an avian vet to ensure he is healthy? Can you tell us what she feeds him and how often? How old is this bird?

She told me the B&G is about 1 yr old, he checks out healthy at the vet and eats everything she offers....all kinds of fruits and veggies and some nuts for treats. I went over to give her everyone's suggestions and took a good look at him. His chest is a beautiful gold, not a feather out of place. But his wings and tail look "shabby". Looks like new feathers coming in maybe cause he has little fuzzies every where. (If that makes sense) He is as happy and sweet as can be, so maybe just needs something basic to sexy the little guy up. Thanks for everyone's help. I love these guys whether they are mine or not. Just can't resist it.

Sounds almost like he's molting. Has he always looked that way or just recently.

Just recently. So maybe it is just molting for him. With my guys I see feathers everywhere but they have never looked like her little one. Thats why I was wanting opinions of others.
