half moon conure??

Hello everyone!

Another question (or a few...LOL)

We have Tiko, a RLA. We have actually been throwing around the idea of getting another fid, to talk to Tiko, and keep each other entertained. (not necessarily let them out together, but you know....)

We wandered into our local bird store today, and saw a half moon conure.

It was just the most adorable thing in the world!

1, Anyone know about general disposition?

2, Do they talk? ( I am not looking for a bird that talks, I know there can never be a guarantee, just wondering)

3, How big do they get?

4, The pics I have found here when I did the search have an orange spot above the beak, and yellow around the eyes, this bird is only 7 weeks, and didnt have that coloring, does that come in later?

5, How long does it take to properly wean them? (by no means am I going to take that challange on.)


Thanks for any thoughts you all may have. BTW, Tiko is doing so much better, I didnt get her clipped, and she is much more loving...guess it was just those springtime hormones...

Hello. Half moons are wonderful! Kermit is a 4 year old female half moon. We got her when she was 4 months old. I love her personality. She is very people oriented.

To answer your questions:

1, Anyone know about general disposition?
Wonderful! Loves people. Loves attention. Slighty independent. Not cuddly.

2, Do they talk? ( I am not looking for a bird that talks, I know there can never be a guarantee, just wondering)
Kermit was talking when she came home at 4months. Here are a few things she says: Hello Kermit, Hey baby, what, monkey, monkeybutt, look Kermit, Hey Bake (Blake is my son), c'mere, it's okay, scratches, and a few others. She puts the words together in various ways. Kermit actually named herself, she came home at 4 months saying "hello Kermit". Kermit was a bird that was boarding at the bird store. I thought it was so cute that we named her Kermit.

3, How big do they get?
Kermit weighs between 75-82 grams. She's a little bigger than a green cheek
and a little smaller than a cockatiel.

I love half moons. Kermit dilates her pupils when she's happy, it is hilarious when she starts laughing and her eyes dilate. She loves everyone but I'm definitely her favorite. As far as noise, she is not quiet but she predictable. She calls her flock in the morning. I honestly can't say anything bad about her.

I've seen one up at a pet store near me, too. :D I may be getting it, if I get there soon enough. >.>
