First Day of Volunteering At Adoption Centre

Today was my first day that i started my community hours. I need 40 to graduate, and I thought wheres a better place then the only parrot rescue in my region. It;s about 30 mins away but I got there around 12 and worked until 5.

It's at this ladys house and remeber there being:

2goffins
1umbrella
1molluccan
2 grrenwings
2 blue and golds
2 double yellow heads
5 love birds
1blue front
7 greys (only 1 was a cag)
1 quaker
1 eclectus
2 tiels
1 budgie
4 conures
then theres a few at foster homes cuz they ran out of room

and i think im forgettign a few. But its in the ladys house and she has a room in the back which had cockatoos and macaws. The amazons and greys stayed in one part of the room and smaller ones were in the other part. They were all out of cages, a few were disabled. She takes in rehomes and works with them and people fill out applications and she deicds if a home is right for them. If there plucked they dont leave until they've stopped. Each bird comes with a cage and is 25% what a bird store would sell.

What i did was set up soem toys in cages, cleaned up for a bit, handeed a few of them and played with a few (3 lovebirds and a meyers would not leave my sholder). The i went outside and helped put the old rusted cages(they have about 30 extra cages) and put then in a trailer. Talked to the lady about what birds are for what kind of person and stuff just questions i had. Shes a bird behavior specialist.

Cutest story! I was washing the windows in the bird room and she took the macaws out cuz they can try and get nippy with stangers but i told her to leave the cockatoos cuz i LOVE cockatoos. And i started washing them and coco(moluccan) and lucy(umbrella) come down from the roof(they have a little nest hideaway there) and just watched me and tried to climb on ym hand to cuddle and get there heads scracthed. So cute they would poke there head dowjn from the roof to see whats going on and say hello. cutest birds ever!

Cant wait to go back saturday and take a few pictures!

WOW community service, or a special treat? hehehe... that sounds like such fun! I'd love to try my luck with those macaws... even if I did risk a finger!
I need to do something like 15 hours of community service to graduate... you just gave me a brilliant idea!!! I don't know if there are any bird rescues in my area, but I shall look... otherwise, the RSPCA sounds good!
