New Bird Legislation in Illinois
Redundant. Probably won't pass either. It would push prices up on pets drastically.
Anyway, USDA requries the breeder's name be given to the new owners with dogs already. The USDA doesn't have laws in place for birds which seems to be an issue and they also do not govern breeders. For security purposes many bird breeders don't want this information public and I can't blame them. The thought behind this one is when complaints are made against someone then the liscense could be pulled and the breeder is out of business. Who are these activists to decided who stays in business or not? If these laws get passed then it opens everyone up to more problems. The activist will use the law to their interest and it doesn't matter if you are a good breeder or store.
If the USDA isn't responding to their cause and change the system then the question is why are they not? The government sees it as other people trying to dictate to a business how they should run it, what to sell, etc. or who should breed or not. Government won't interfere with that part as that is too intrusive.
There is the same with animal control. They are limited to what they can do. Activists can't seem to use them to put anyone out of business. Most of this seems to be a learning process for groups that are getting in everyone's business. Just because they complain that cages are too small doesn't mean someone will be arrested for animal crueltly. Seems that they don't know the legal requirements for cages but does it end there? No. So when you see all of these new laws up for possible passing think of where and whom it comes from. It isn't anyone who is in the trade industry trying to make a living.
