Help prevent a yeast infection!

I went to the vet yesterday for a check up for Rico's yeast infection. The meds he had taken the 10 days prior had cleared up his yeast infection of his upper respiratory tract. My vet told me to put a couple drops of vinegar in his water everyday. She told me this would help prevent yeast infections in birds. Just wanted to share!

Thanks for sharing that, also, not feeding stuff with sugar in it goes a LONG way to help preventing yeast infections too! :o)

Ok, I went out today and bought the organic apple cider vinegar. Rico has a water bowl. How many drops a day do I put in his water?

I would put only a few drops per cup of water. If it is too strong Rico won't like it. You just try an amount that you might drink. It is good for you too! So grab a glass of water, throw a few drops in it and see if you can taste it too strongly. Another website to help with this is:

Holistic Bird

I'll give it a try. I just told my husband I bought some and he told me just what you said. That I should drink it too. He said it's good for high blood pressure and aids in losing weight. :aiwebs_01 Not sure how to take that one.

Anything acid will reduce the production of yeast. A little fresh lemon juice would also help. You only offer Benebac AFTER the antibiotic treatments are over.

Is this something special with birds? I know with bunnies and guinea pigs, they need a probiotic 1-2 hours following each dose of antibiotics.
