Well folks . . .
. . . I have some exciting news to share! On the 27th (weather cooperating!) we will be getting a new family member here! Yes, another feathered one! This birdie is almost 17 years of age. S/he spent the first 15 years with one owner and was then passed on to a friend when owner #1 met a man and birdie did not fit in. Owner #2 had birdie for a year, and then hubby said, bird must go! The next step was to be a holdover until a spot opened up at the New England Exotic Bird Sanctuary . . . but then the scandal broke and the sanctuary was gone, and birdie was looking for a permanent home once more. I tried to resist! I really did. But, the wonderful foster mom wore me down with adorable photos. What was I to do? Memee', who I have been thinking of as Me'Maple (same sound with a "ple" on the end) had bloodwork done last week. Everything came back excellent with the exception of the cholesterol (hence my question the other day). Psittacosis was negative. Me'Maple will be housed in my bedroom for a semi-quarantine (same air space, unfortunately, but the best I can do where I live). S/he has been with foster mom Joanne for 8 months now, with no signs of ill health, but we know the stress of a move can weaken the immune system. I went and visited him or her (will do a DNA test soon!) a couple of weeks ago, and Joanne will bring Me'Maple to me on a week and a half. I'm very much looking forward to welcoming him or her to the family. I know it will be a big adjustment. I am so excited, and had to share the good news. Me'Maple has a eye injury to the left eye, but it has been checked out by an eye specialist and it is the result of an old injury and there's nothing that can be done for it. Here is a photo! ![]() This is a Mealy Amazon - s/he does need to go on a diet but at last weigh in was 711 grams - that is more than twice as big as my little Amazons here now! Quite a big birdie by comparison!! Thanks for letting me share! Sincerely, ![]() see my feathered friends here: http://www.geocities.com/willowbabybird/Home.html |

Amazons rule and Me'Maple is truly queenly. She is gorgeous. Congratulations to both of you.
