Tiki's such an escape artist that I am going to pick up some new caribiner clips this weekend. I have some already but this new cage has more doors! The designer of the cage said she has no problems ( I asked about doors and opening, and escaping) - But nevertheless I will feel better with the clips (and I'm sure my piano and my walls thank me). I appreciate the insight, thanks, and I will definitely pick up some more clips this weekend now!
For those of you that don't know what one is.... here is a pic I just pulled off the net. They are AWESOME - my birds haven't figured them out yet, and they are made out of aluminum. Lowe's has a great selection of colors and sizes. ![]()

Dana:
I have two of those in the larger size for 2 of my BGs. You really have to be very careful with the drop down patio. I have to keep mine chained up with dog chokers and a padlock. One day, Dreamie was sitting on top of the cage door and Mia opened the disk on the patio. It dropped down so hard it almost got Dreamie. I know that had the door been more closed, it would have killed him instantly. In fact, this summer when I take them apart for power washing, I'm gonna have Will weld them closed. It really, really is dangerous. Otherwise, I love the cages, but please heed my warning. THE OUTLAW

Hi Dana,
One caution I was advised of when I was picking cages - Apparently it is quite easy for the birds to remove the perch from the open top, thus causing the top to shut on them. Also, if you do plan to open the top often, you can't really hang any toys from the top, or else you have to remove them everytime to open it or they get pooped on, I am told. Again, I don't have one, I decided to go with a dome top after hearing what I've shared with you above. Just a couple of things to think about! I know how exciting it is to get a new cage! That looks like an HQ cage - is it? There are some very excellent deals on these at birdmarts - shop around a bit and be sure you are getting the best price. Good luck!! |

No worries... thanks all - I'll keep those things in mind.
I've got the clips to secure all doors..... also this cage is so tall I don't plan on letting her play on top of it really.... she has pleanty of stands and there's too many things in the bird/music room for them to get into, so they don't get to go outside the cages in there. I think I liked the open top more for cleaning purposes than for letting her play on it... like I said, the cage is tall, it creates dominance issues to allow them to be so high - I could get her down because I'm alpha bird, but Tiki wouldn't dream of allowing anyone else to remove her from a high perch. I will clip the peek door and the perch top shut, and if I DO use them, they would get clipped open as well. I appreciate your advice, but I know how dangerous even regular doors can be, Tiki's was off balance or something where I used to have it, and it slammed once with her standing on the door. Cages are not for playing at my house, cages are for sleeping and for when nobody's home. Stands are for playing :-} Thanks! I'm just happy I was able to get a bigger one... and both fids will be safe.

nursenurse44, not sure where birdyland got her cage but here it is on this website: scroll down to #94032 http://birdsupply.com/iron%20cages.htm
But if you have a birdmart in your area check there - cages are always so much less expensive at marts!! |

Free shipping. I had to pay like $30 in tax, but that's only because I'm in California. I will post some pics and a report when I get it and put it up!
