I'd Like Yall To Meet

Hi there yall, I'd like yall to meet Oscar. He had been found outside and was looking really rough when he was found. He was skin and bones and looked rough, but after a month of wonderful care by those that found him, he looks a lot better, has plumped up and is doing well.
I have brought him home in hopes of being able to retame him, I do believe that he was once holdable and snuggable at one time because you can tell by watching him that he wants attention but he's scared, just like a stray cat.
The folks that were taking such good care of him were calling him Grumpy cuz well he is LOL and I was calling him GrouchyButt, then it hit me, Groucho, but that wasnt really fitting.
A friend of mine said that when I said Groucho it reminded her of Oscar from Sesame Street, and well Oscar stuck. Of course once i get to know his personality and everything, that might change, but for now its Oscar. He is funny. He of course does the typical fox whistle, but he also whistles the Adaam's Family theme. I havent heard him do that yet, I just brought him home last night and Im sure it might be a few days or so before he starts singing.
Anywho, without further ado....say hello to Oscar.

I found and caught my first cockatiel when I was 9 :D He was a grey too! He flew around the street, in trees, on wires and fences until he seemed to give up and just sat on the ground and let me catch him. I tamed him enough to step up, sit on my shoulder and on my back while I crawled around (when I was 9 mind you!)
It's sweet of you to give him a home, I'm sure he'll warm up to you in no time! Adams family tune! That's such a cute song for a birdy, I'll start teaching my cinnamon that... he only knows the simpsons hehe

I found a cockatiel in Kuringai National Park whilst on a bush walk. He was walking along the track in front of me, with his head held high, whistling 'the old grey mare'!!! Happy as a pig in mud!!! He stepped up and spent the next 10 years with us as all our attempts to find his original owner failed. He was the happiest, chirpiest bird ever. My friend fidsat once while we went on holidays and she still laughs at his antics. Once during an violent thunderstorm, all that could be heard in the between the thunder was Billy whistling 'Pop goes the Weasel'!! All her other animal and fids were very quiet and very scared.
So good luck with your new little friend -they are the sweetest little birds and he'll come around quickly I'm sure.

Talking

When I was a child we had a pair of tiels out of them both one of them lived to 31. I have been around tiels all my life in fact that is what really got me into birds.

I was eating at a pizza parlor one night in Santa Barbara CA and I was around 12 years old and I heard a thud on the window next to our table and when I looked up there was the cutest grey male you have ever seen walking back and forth on the outside sill.

We went outside and caught it outside in a small bucket and cardboard. When we got him home I reached in to grab him and he just stepped up on my hand, now that was too cool.

We ended up keeping him after we couldn't find the owners, and he had this fettish for tennis shoes. If you were wearing a pair he would frantically chase you so he could sit on your shoe, in fact instead of a play gym we had tennis shoes placed around the house on newspapers, people visiting obviously were asking questions. So we ended up calling him Tenny(it was fitting)

Since that experience I have always kept an eye towards the sky, I have caught at least ten stray cockatiels since then, most of them were tame some were abused basket cases but I loved and cared for them all the same. I seemed to be a cockatiel magnet, even folks that knew me that had birds would come to me to go and retrieve their birds for them and a lot of times I was successful.............LMB

What a cutie. I'm sure with some time and patience you'll be able to tame him again. Thanks for sharing!

Those are all awesome stories about your tiels, thats just too neat. The only one I ever found as a kid was a white with light blue parakeet. We just saw this little white bird sitting in a tree in my yard, I thought he would fly away, but I walked up and put my finger up and he stepped up immediately. Unfortunately he died only 2 days later, I guess he was out in the elements too long :(
But he had a great 2 days of being loved and spoiled.

I woke up this morning being whistled at, he would fox whistle then blow kisses, it was so funny. And he is fascinated with my dog, he just sits there staring at her. Makes me wonder if in his previous home there was a dog.

So far the cats have been really good by not trying to get to him, makes me proud of them, they have been curious of course though.

I will give updates on his progress and the new things I see him coming out of his shell to do. :)
