Screaming!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and am the proud mother of an 8 week adorbale Australian Red Collared Lorikeet called "Luna". She is hand fed and played with and has every thing known to man to entertain her. I'm writing this at work (on a Friday afternoon!!!) and she is with me at work. She loves coming in to the office and hanging out. She is very much loved and part of the family.

I am now a little worried as in the last week she has taken up screaming. She screams when I feed her, she screams when she sits on my lap or my shoulder and she screams if she is on her play gym and wants to be with me. The things is she is screaming when she is with me and getting a lot of attention and love and she screams when she isn't getting any attention.

I am wondering whether this is just a baby thing too. We are new to the bird game so any advice would be appreciated. I suppose I am looking for reassurance that this is just normal behaviour and looking for ways to teach her that screaming all the time is naughty.

Thanks!

if she screams COMPLETELY IGNORE HER. but then also when she stops for 30 seconds or so go up and give her attention. she sounds like a bit of a spoilt brat lol..

Yeah, when she starts to scream, put her down somewhere and ignore her till she stops- wait a while, reward her and play with her. Soon as she starts (even if it's two seconds later) put her down again. She'll soon get the idea that screaming= alone!
Although screaming is part of owning a lorikeet, she shouldn't scream while she is doing what you say You could teach her to express her excitement in more enjoyable ways- like to talk instead of scream... You could teach her to go WEEEE! or WOOOOO!!!
