Playgyms

Since it seems several members have made playgyms for their birds, I'll start this off and others can post their pics as well. Mine is a PVC frame which the teils are not liking so I'll have to buy some more rope and tie natural branches on the horizontal perches. I thought the rope would be enough for a good grip but they seem wary of it. I attached heaps of toys to it. The frame, joiners and rope cost about $50 Aussie and the toys another $120 so about the equivalent of $140 USD all up. Some toys were already on hand.

WOW, what great playgyms, everyone!!

Tiki, have you tried wrapping sections of the pvc in "vet wrap" for them?
It's soft, comes in great colors, is self-sticking too, so you don't need to make knots or use clips, and, you can take it off and wash it a few times before it loses it's stretch and stick-to-itselfness. (that's not a word, I know!) LOL

Wow everyone has made such nice play gyms!! I wish we had the room for a larger one like that right now, but only have the room for the smaller one. Someday when we move into a house I would like to get my husband to build a large one like one of those :D
Keep the pictures coming

Hmmmm Cliff and Laurie's playgyms are plain PVC and they have larger birds so I guess it is just an issue for small birds like tiels. Savvy, not sure exactly what vet wrap is.....is it some kind of elastic bandage? Can you post a pic in case it is called something else in Australia?

Tiki:

Do you play baseball Down Under? The stuff they wrap the bat handle with is very similar. Sometimes this is referred to as sport tape. When you stretch it, it activates the stickiness and it clings to things as well as itself.

Frankly, I don't like to use it. Instead, simply rough up the surfaces with a dremmel or very coarse sandpaper. The vet tape gets filthy very quickly.

Yep Nancy, it can get dirty real fast... BUT, if your playgym is built right,
with no upper perches in the right position for poop to fall on the ones below... it's not going to get that dirty that fast.
Also, 'Tiel poop vs Macaw poop... LOL ...no comparison!

Savvy:

Its not just the poop. Macaws hold everything in their feet and that's where the real mess comes from. And, they delight in wiping dirty beaks there too.
