Sorry to bother you all with more advice requests, but as per usual, it always happens on weekends when vet is closed.
As you all may remember, Chilli, my amazon is recovering from a yeast infection. She has been acting fine, and her last med is tomorrow (her second round) of which she will be checked, per vet, in about two weeks.
However, today, she was acting odd and I now can not tell if it is from her recent illness and a problem starting again, or if it is nesting behavior. I have noticed she is very hormonal lately, with the typical "parrot dancing" and clucking (which I try to discourage). So I know she has been hormonal. She has layed eggs before in the past and I seem to recall similar behavior prior.
It is NOT the dancing and clucking that bothers me, but today while she was fine this a.m., when I got home she appears more loggy and was (at times) sitting in corner of cage. It looked more like a nesting behavior then just being on cage bottom due to not feeling well, but of course with her recent illness, it is hard to tell.
Can someone tell me what the behavior/symptoms are prior to nesting, if indeed that is what she is doing. I seem to remember she did this before, prior to laying eggs, was a bit less herself (quieter) and then would (at times) be on bottom of cage in corner. She does not stay on bottom and she does not appear to be straining.
I can not take her to the emergency vet,, even though I did so once before with this behavior only to have her lay an egg on the exam table and end up paying 180 bucks to be told that was all it was.
I already sold my second car and half my jewelery to pay her two surgeries last year and her recent vet bills, so I am tapped out...for ER vets.
She does not appear in in stress, just quieter and going to the bottom to the corner like she is sitting on a nest.
SO..do birds sometimes get quieter and sit in cage corner prior to nesting?
Thanks agian for any info. If I do not lose my mind before this is all resolved. ACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
