Awesome pics I recieved in an email.

These photos were taken recently by Tom Carver.
Who lives on Lakelse Lake just outside of Terrace, B.C.

He owns The Water Lily Bay Resort and also feeds the swans
on the lake all the time!

Eagles are very common in this area, too.

Enjoy!

Swan and Eagle pictures.

So here is the swan photo.

What a beautiful bird, so graceful and majestic.

Here comes the Eagle!!!

You can see the feathers flying here from the swan.

This one is so amazing to see the actual eagle wing span beside the swan.
The poor swan must be scared to death ...

The swan is attempting to escape death in the air!

The eagle is loosing his grip on the swan in this picture.

Now the eagle has just lost his grip on the swan completely.

At this point the swan starts falling straight down.

The swan falls into the water below, swims away and the eagle just looks on at his 'lost' prey.

I'm amazed at these picture because I've NEVER seen eagles attack or tackle something so big in mid-air before.

AMAZING pictures!!!

That eagle must have been HUNGRY. Had he killed the swan, there's NO WAY he could have carried it away. The average weight of an adult female eagle (larger than the male) is 10 pounds. The average weight of the smallest species of swan I could find was 11 pounds--From the pictures, though, it looks like a Trumpeter Swan, and the average weight of a male is 26 pounds (females are 22)!!! A quick wiki search tells me eagles can only carry 5 pounds in flight. He would have had to eat on the ground!

Maybe his frat buddies put him up to it or something?

Wow! I thought only falcons would try to take prey so much bigger than themselves! And they usually knock it out of the sky, not try to bind to it! That's one gutsy eagle. Poor swan though. Must suck to be on your commute and then have a big ole eagle latch onto your butt out of nowhere.

Thanks for the cool pics!

Wow! That's amazing! If the swan just fell... did it survive? I assume it did, but if it fell, who knows.

The eagle throwing goats off a cliff one is insane. That's how those eagles hunt. They grab the mountain goats and hold on just long enough to drag them off. They then go to the bottom and eat.
