Exclamation Lulu Finally Here

It Was A Long Day For Lulu (catalina Macaw). She Arrived Here This Afternoon. Her Old Owner Brought Her Here. She Was A Little Stressed But Did Okay. Then The Dog Got Out Of The Bedroom. We Had Bird And Dog Chasing Each Other. Thank God They Didn't Get Ahold Of Each Other. Lulu Was Trying To Fly And Of Course Hit The Floor. She Is Now Back In Her Cage And Doing Okay. Just A Bit Of A Stress Test. We Will Leave Her In Her Cage Tomorrow. My House Is Small So Unfortunately They Need To Get Aquainted. We Will Just Stay With Them The Whole Time. She Is Beautiful. I Thought She Was 11 Months Old But She Is Really 8 Months. I Am Sure All Will Be Well.
Lulu And Booboo (citron Cockatoo) Hit It Off Well. I Was Trying To Keep Them Away From Each Other. But They Started Talking Back And Forth. They Seem To Really Get Along. Lulu Landed On Booboo's Cage When She Was Getting Away From The Dog. I Was So Scared...but Booboo Went Into His Cage And They Kept Saying Hello To Each Other. Hopefully It Will Be A Mellow Night. I Know This Is Long..sorry...what Exactly Is The Quarantine For And How Long Should It Last?

Quarentine is... the new bird must be in a separate room/different part of the house away from the already established bird(s) in the house. Preferably they should not share the same air source (I know its hard to do). It should last 4-8 weeks. The new bird should be taken to the vet after calming down and settling in and be given a clean bill of health after all tests are run before introducing to the rest of the flock. During quarentine... make sure you thoroughly wash and change your shirt when going from handling one bird to the next. They do not share toys, food bowls etc. Basically thats it.

thanks

Got it. Thanks. LULU actually went to the vet last week. He said she was healthy. They also drew blood and checked her out extremely well. It is nice to have an Avian Vet already established with us. It is the same one I take BOOBOO to.

Thumbs up Having Fun

Oh my gosh....She has adapted so well.....She is talking up a storm. Loves everyone. Will only let us touch her beak at this point. But we will work with her. She picks up fast. Booboo loves her. And Best of All....My husband loves her. I see fun times ahead....
