Question Please read my post in "Bird Experts"

Hi,

obviously some of the experts have read my post, but there was no reply.
The thread is called "itchy sun conure". Can you please read it and see if you have any ideas?
Thank you!

Gabriella,

the rules for the experts area are that no one can post there at least until the experts have had a chance to answer...but I will give you my best shot here..

At 6 months old, it is possible that your bird is molting..does he have lots of sticky pointy sheathed feathers all over his body? Then he could be trying to preen himself, tho I've never heard of a bird throwing himself on his back to take care of this problem.

You might want to try and mist him with warm water and see if y ou can ease his itching by preening some of the feathers he can't reach. This is a GREAT opportunity to bond with your baby..don't let it pass you by. Birds will need weekly showers, or ample opportunity to bathe..most often the smaller birds just cant resist a freshly changed water dish!

What you might want to do to see if your bird has mites is to put a sheet of clean white paper under his cage..check it out tomorrow and see if there are any black specks that could indicate mites..but Im not a mite expert....

Thank You

Hi Lissa,

thank you for your reply. The funny behavior lasted for 2 days and then stopped. So I don't know what this was all about. She's acting like her regular silly conure-self again.
Maybe she just was in a especially frisky mood. She does not seem to be molting either, her feathers look normal.
Anyway, handy advice about the white paper to check for mites.
