LOL, I was scared of the beak to but Im more afraid of my parrotlets now,LOL - they bleed me everytime! As for cost, I have not alot over $100.00 (yes I said one hundred) in my wonderful Macaw Calypso. It can be done if you properly educate yourself in Avian Husbandry, meet the right people, walk the walk, and talk the talk. I found the cage (a huge kings cage for $50 just by asking (saw it on a porch somehwere needing paint) Calypso was nothing but I gave her $50 because she was nice enough to bring him to me from two hours away. I was actually paying her to do the home check. Now he has costed a little more with a vet check and disease testing and last weekend we found him an awsome second cage that is equally as huge for $175.
Moral is you just have to be educated, patient, frugal, and keep your eyes open for the deals always. I had Callys cage two years before I had Cally. Ive paid less for him over all then some people have paid for a cockateil set up.
