Help on this deal

I am about to purchase a re-homing bird that was posted on the classifieds on Birdboard.com

I am worried about the transaction because the seller has not shown pictures of the bird and claims to be shipping the bird to my nearest airport after I pay her.

The seller is Jessica Powell. Has anyone dealt with her and completed a transaction?

If she says the bird is being shipped from Cameroon steer clear. There are a lot of scams out there that all seem to have birds being shipped from there. I don't know anything about the ad you responded to or the person who placed it but as a general rule I would never send money for anything without seeing it first. Have you talked to her on the phone or seen a website? Is this her own bird she is rehoming or is it a foster bird she has taken in? I'd find out as much as I can before I make payment.

Oh for crying out loud.

Call me crazy but someone offering a hyacinth for $300 should be a HUGE red flag. It ain't gonna happen.

If they want paid and are shipping site unseen it is a scam. I actually review the adds every few days and delete them I would not send and money you will not get a bird..

One thing I have heard is a good method to screw up the scammers is to request a photo of the animal (bird, dog, whatever) with a small sign with your name on the sign next to the animal.

Why would anyone buy/want to buy a parrot they havn't seen? Just seems nuts to me...

Wasn't there a thread here last week from a woman who did that? She did pay for a baby sun, but got an older one that was riddled with problems... illness, bow legged etc etc...

A good way to avoid scams in the future is:

only pay through paypal
demand a picture of the bird with your name on a piece of paper
have them e-mail you so you can track their ip adress
ask for references, vets, people who have met the bird, ect to call
