You all have probly read my past posts with my cockatiel Petrie. I did some research by calling his breeder and i found out why he disliked hands. The breeder hired a woman to help her hand raise the baby cockatiels. Well that woman was cruel and would throw him up and down and in other words torcher him and his siblings. Now in his life with me i have been trying so hard to get him to liek me. You probly saw my video yesturday of how he would back off and his at hands but would eat millet from hands. Well today he stepped onto my hand and wouldnt leave lol. what i dislike is that the lady trimed his wings way to short so he cant fly he has to be transported around. So what do you think about my progress in exactly a week that i have had him.

You are doing great. I had a regular Male cockatiel years ago. He was part of a breeder pair but he was so mean to the female they separated them. I bought him not knowing what I was getting myself into. In the end the bird liked me but I was never able to accomplish what you have in one week's time and I had him over 13 years.
I love the Grey males. Nature did a good job on them just the way they are.

You can do lots of things for foraging. You can hang fruit from the top of the cage, you can get some parrot safe wire and make alittle swirl that millet can fit in, you can hide treats inside of tissues, and tie them to the cage bars, or tie them to each other, you can hide treats in lots of difference parrot safe items, like toilet paper rolls. There are tons of things to do. Try checking out the do it yourself section of the forum for more ideas.
Also, I feel for you on the scared of hands thing. My linnieolated parakeet was traumatized by one of my friends when it first came home. It was a baby and impressionable. It thought for its whole life that hands were the worst thing ever. It loved people, though. It would crawl all over me as long as it couldnt see my hands. Eventually it trusted me enough to lat me pick it up (after 6 yrs of working with it), but still hated the hands of anyone else. You are lucky its already coming around!

He looks very sweet. It seems that he is learning to trust you. A motto I go by, "we have to earn our birds trust everyday". It seems that with his recent progress he may forget his earlier mistreatment. I can only imgaine that would have been very jarring for him at such a young age. Probably the lunatic didn't know any better.
