Who has found a GREAT hand-vac for clean-up around birds?
I have a "cyclonic action" Dustbuster which pretty much sucks (or doesn't suck, if I want to be precise). I have an amazing Electrolux canister which kicks butt overall but I don't like to drag it out every day.
Who has found a terrific portable/small/hand vac that works well for all of the typical "bird mess"? Anyone tried the small portable Dyson? -SB

Thanks for the replies, folks! I have a ShopVac in the garage...I was thinking something a little smaller, although it is certainly efficient. ;) Whoops, there goes the cockatiel!!! LOL

I bought a swivel sweeper and find it works very good. It is strong enough to suck up large pieces and gentle enough to use on the newspaper without tearing it up. It light and easy to clean and goes from carpet to bear floor without changing anything. I liked it so much I bought another one for upstairs

I ended up installing Central Vac in my home, after injuring my back in a car accident our Kirby was too heavy for me to use. I tried a small canister vac, a shop vac, but nothing picked up like the kirby. I was going to buy a dyson but I want to get more info before spending that kind of money. I went to an actual vacumn store that sold and repaired dysons and they had at least 5 or 6 various dyson models in to be repaired. They do get clogged up eventhough they claim not too. The clerk in the store suggested Central vac, but I never considered it because any unit I had even used was way too heavy.
I tried a new one right in the store and ended up buying it, My Husband installed ours but even if I would have paid for installation it would have still been less than a $1000. I have two power head units so I do not have to carry it up the stairs each on is 30feet long and I can carry the hose with one arm even with four herniated disc in my neck. My particular unit takes a 6 gallon bag which keeps any dust from re-entering our house and anything that is small enough to excape the bag automatically gets vented outside. I use it to clean the hardwood floors, tile, bathrooms, I dust with it and I have at least 1/2 as much dust than before I got it. The main unit, one power head and a car kit(we also have a connection outside to clean the cars) cost $650.00 the extra power head was another $275.00 and trust me it can pick up anything, I have vacumned up socks, my daughter toys, mittins scarves(all by accident) My Husband left the pipes unglued so he can open them up occasionally and make sure I don't clog them with all my accidental pick ups. If you decide to look into a unit there are two ways to power them, Power built right into the vacumn hose which requires electrical be installed as well as the vacumn tubing or on like mine that has a seperate electircal plug and then you only need to make sure you vacumn outlets are near any electrical outlet you already have(If you are paying to have it installed this kind is much cheeper to install) Mine is a Fridgidaire Brand which was bought out and I believe is now electralux. |

I have the Shark. It is the 15.6 volt cordless model. Honestly, I had not personally considered this model and was looking at much more expensive handhelds remembering the rechargeable dust buster I had twenty years ago that wasn't that strong. A friend gave me the Shark as a Christmas gift. I didn't expect much from it but I am very pleasantly surprised. It cleans up all my bird mess. I keep it charging near the cage and can pick it up at any time and clean up whatever the boys have decided to toss around. It may not compete with a big shop vac but for quick, maintenance type clean-ups between heavy vacuuming days it more than does the job.
