My little girl (5) was diagnosed with mild allergies several months ago after having lived with our golden retriever and African Grey all her life!! We couldn't believe it, and couldn't bear to let either of them go, so we bought a "serious" medical grade hepa air purifier. It's worked for us. Go to Pet Machine Air Purifier - PurerAir.com Good luck!

i have horrible, debilitating allergies but i take zyrtec and it is manageable
i also have asthma but my cockatoo doesnt bother it that ive noticed

my son has allergies as well so he takes zyrtec too
ive found that it works better than claritin or some other allergy medication for the cockatoo dust

I just bought a Honeywell Hepa air purifier I couldn't stand the dust anymore. Before we got Mr. we didn't have that much dust in the house now I see a lot more of it and I have felt my allergies acting up. The only thing that I don't like about the air purifiers is they don't cover that much footage.

I have severe asthma and allergies (my asthma is induced by my allergies and acid reflex) and I have crazy allergies to a lot of things.
I have been taking zyrtec for a couple of years... and if it's really bad I also take a nasal decongestant.
But when my parents remodeled our home they installed a HUGEMONGO medical grade filter for the whole house! We also have a two store bought ones around the house. It makes it so much better :)
(not that I have a "dusty" bird)

My tiels were a lot dustier than my grey but I take Bing in the shower every day or so and I have an air filter so I think that helps a lot. Try both of those things. Also, have your girl friend wash her hands and face when she gets done playing with Lucky. You'd be surprised how well that has helped for me with other animals I had an allergy reaction to.

When we started looking into getting a bird we learned of all the breeds to steer clear of due to the feather dust. We were told too's & teil's But there is so much you can do like the filters suggested so you can make it easier on the allergys. Good luck!
