Exclamation What kind of conure is this.

My moms friend has this bird its in horrible condition. its cage is constantly dirty. The feed there bird once a day at liek 12 at night and the rest of the day it has no food. i feel so bad and iv invited her to come over and see petrie and how clean his cage is and how neat everything is but she stil didnt get the point that her bird is in horrible condition. im even considering paying her $600 for him/her. Whats sad is im 16 and i have more responsiblity than her and her 21 and 19 year old kids. so can you yell me what kind of conure this is.

it's not a conure at all - that's a jardine's parrot... they're gorgeous birds

Do you mean they feed the bird at midnight and then take the food out? I'm confused as to why the bird wouldn't have food the rest of the day.

He is gorgeous! Do they interact with him at all?

he's a pretty bird. i agree with valo's he is a jardines. they usually cost more than a conure. i wouldn't tell those people what s/he is though. they might charge even more. good luck!

OK, that's weird. Why would they take his food away?

This is sad... I dont think you should take the bird, because when you move out, you'll probably need to rehome the bird because it would be too loud for an apartment. The one bird is probably all the trouble you need right now. Wait until you have settled down and have a house or something before taking on another parrot.

Just try to keep encouraging the person to clean the cage and interact with the bird. Let them know that they never need to remove the food from the cage, as birds like to forage all day long. Only fresh foods need to be removed because they collect bacteria.

Also, this bird may have a disease or something that you wouldnt want your cockateil to contract. Another reason to leave it with its owners. Maybe you could convince these people to rehome the bird to a better family (although that might step on some toes).

Oh, that poor Jardine's! They are a beautiful member of the poicephalus family of parrots. I hope that he finds his way to a loving, responsible home!
