Yes I have pellets and rice. I will give him pellets and see if he/she will eat that. I will go to a feed store tomorrow hopefully and get it food it will eat.

put something on the floor of the crate, newspaper is great, not so slippery. you will do fine. do not be surprised if he does not eat, this is really really scary for him.. just talk to him in soft voice, get him used to you.. just like any other bird.

if you dont have a hot pad or a heat lamp you can fill an old sock with rice and warm it in the microwave until its warm to keep the baby warm

you might also want to put and old towel underneath it

I put a piece of cardboard and a towel in there with it. I also put a hot bottle of water under the towel. I will try to give it rice and if that doesn't work I will try the pellets. What do they eat in the wild?

Ducklings are born knowing how to feed themselves (lucky mommas!).

If you have space for one, put a kiddy pool in the garage or other "safe" and inescapable area (ducklings are FAST). If you sprinkle the crushed pellets in there... he will go to town on them. Also... 9 grain bread is a good "starter" food. And don't forget some veggies! Try broccoli blooms (cut just the very ends off the florets).

I had 7. Found them all in a buch runnig in traffic. I brought them home, but a few died. The vet told me they didn't need heat. HE WAS WRONg!! This is what I did and save 4!

I put them in my bath tub, with a heating pad on low (with a towel over it). I went to the feed & grain center and got Duck food.

Everyday I would take everything out of the tub and fill it up a littl with water so they could swim. Then when done I wiped the tub dry with a towel and put the heating pad in etc. They did very well.

I went to the store today and bought it a big bag of duck food. I also got him a large pan all for itself so it can swim in it and drink too. I will keep him in the crate because we use the bath tub. We currently have about 14 ppl staying in the house with us included so the bathtub is out of limite for the little guy. I will try to get him to a wild life rehab.
