Wink HELP Please with my IRN

Hi I have a beautiful IRN and he is only close with me and screams at everyone else in the family.
My main thing is he lets me pat him most times in and out of the cage often flattening his back when I do pet him. I have been told to ignore his biting but it's hard when he almost rips your finger off. I want him to stop biting as there is so much more I would like to do with him. his name is Gypsy and he is 9 months old.
Any advice on slowing or stopping his biting please.?
Thanks.

I had a Ringneck who initially bit or at least pretended to bite, someone told me to blow in her face when she acted out like that. It worked in a matter of days. She was the sweetest bird ever. Good luck to you.

You need to train him. REALLY train him. Go here:
CAGE TERRITORIALITY if it is only happening in and around the cage. Look at the other articles there too (link on bottom of page).

Smile Hi

Hi Thanks for the advice, it happens outside the cage as well as when he is away from the cage.
But I will try and train him away from his cage
Thanks.

Hes not being cage terretorial, IRN's go through that biting stage DO NOT stop handling him because he will go wild, just like jbottino said blowing on their face will help him to stop.

I have TWO IRN's...my oldest, Scarley, she was a WITCH after I got her. Kid you not, took me TWO years to get her tamed where she came to me. Since then, I haven't been able to beat her off. We still go thru moments when she attempts to make a new piercing. Don't act out on the bite even though it hurts like all get out. I don't attempt to pick her up in her cage, I let her come out, her cage is HER cage, and I respect that. Spend as much time with her as possible every day. Scarley hates everyone but me. She can't stand my roommate. Where on the other hand, my blue IRN Ringo hates me, but adores my roommate.

Talking Thanks

Thanks everyone it helps to hear others with similar probs as I have.
I let him out tonight and he got on my arm to come sit with me on the couch.
I used my arm not my hand as I value my fingers.
He was pretty good. I also have a perch which he would never go near.
I placed it on the coffee table where he was experimenting with the remote and sunglasses, He came over and had a go at it. I just left it there and then picked it up slightly and he finally stepped up on it. I put it down and told him good boy straight away. Then he came back a few times and stepped up I was proud of my boy/girl. Lol. I will find out one day what sex he is..

I try and handle him everyday. Loves his food.
If anyone in the house is eating he plays up for some.

Thanks..

I have the same problem with my husbands CAG. If I can grab her beak and hold on, she will stop for a while. She just doesn't like me!

Melly:

Be careful not to reinforce that "begging" behavior everytime you are eating. In no time he will be insufferable at dinner time or when company is over, etc.

I do SO wish parrots "unlearned" half as fast and well as they learn!

Smile Hi

Hi, yes the food thing is only when he is in his cage we do not let him out
when we are eating...
He has been trying to talk this morning.
Wish he would say something. I am always talking to him.
He barks and sooks like our Chiwawa (Wrong spelling but you know what I mean)
dog. He does the woof whislte and mumbles to himself.

How long till he may say a word? He is 9 months old.

This site is so great for info.
Thanks everyone.
