Ferrets can cause mass havoc on an ecosystem if they DO set up a colony. And out there, they are really afraid of them taking over where the black-footed ferrets are. Out here in the east... it is not such a worry.

As a matter of fact... YES, I do.

"As a matter of fact... YES, I do."

the vet isnt putting anything on the line, except they charge a LOT more, because it is within their full legal rights to treat the quaker/ferret and not report it.

Did no one read my previous post?

As for the black footed ferret is much diff. than the domesticated one, I forgot the specifics to that argument but I have read about it.

"Most of the misconceptions regarding domestic ferrets probably come from mistaking them for their wild cousins. It's very difficult to tell a polecat or a mink from a domestic ferret when all you've seen is a flash of fur disappearing into a burrow, and polecats and minks are quite common in the less-developed areas of Europe and North America.
Because of the similar names, domestic ferrets have also been confused with their cousins the North American Black-Footed Ferrets, Mustela nigripes. Black-footed ferrets (BFFs) are wild remote relatives of the domestic ferret. They are an endangered species: the only BFFs known to exist are in zoos or in a breeding program in Wyoming. However, despite similar appearances, the BFF is not very closely related to the domestic ferret."
Ferret FAQ - Part 1 of 5

As far as I know, there has never in the US been a feral colony of ferets, especially since most are fixed, feel free to prove me wrong though, infact their is a whole webby dedicated to the legalization of ferrets. Aah yes here is the direct quote,

"Ferrets do not pose an environmental threat to California. The Department of Fish and Game already knows that ferrets are not likely to harm the environment. In 1997 they conducted their own survey of all fifty state wildlife departments. The results of this survey clearly show that ferrets have never formed a feral colony or bred in the wild anywhere in the United States. This report was not made public until ferret proponents uncovered it several years later through the Freedom of Information Act."
Why legalize ferrets in California?

Oh... I agree (used to own one of the little blokes when I was a teen... had her from a kit until she died at age 13. I still miss her.) - I was just stating why there is a law against them in Cali.

Not at the moment! LOL

I am presently working in hydraulic and pneumatic engineering. I started college at Syracuse University at age 16. I have 4 college degrees including pre-vet and used to be a licensed vet-tech in NY. I also have a bunch of 1-2 year certifications.

I have a habit of collecting college degrees and making little use of them in other words.

I also have an insatiable appetite for learning (as a kid I actually read encyclopedias... cover to cover!). I try to learn at least one new thing each day. I have darned good retention as well... so I remember things I read in passing a few years ago.

The only time any of it really comes in useful is back when my family played Trivial Pursuit. They stopped playing with me when we had gone through all the cards on the regular and refill pack and I remembered all the answers. LOL

Now perhaps if I could just get on Jeopardy...
