Does anyone know about an Exotic Bird Store in Orange, CT?

I am on travel this week for work in CT and I passed by a little strip mall in Orange with a store called (as best as I can tell) "Exotic Birds". There are two cockatoos in the store front window, each in its own huge cage. The store is located in between an "Olive Garden" and "TGIFridays" that are a few blocks apart.

The store wasn't open when I went by, but I peeked in the door and all that is in the store (that I could see) are three long rows of cages down the length of the store. I could see some cockatoos and at least one B&G macaw. There was nothing else at all in the store except about 25 - 30 large cages. No racks of food or toys that I could see. Does anyone know anything about this store? I will reserve my comments on what I think about what I saw until I get some other feedback, hopefully from someone who lives around here and can tell me what the conditions really are inside that store.

If it's a reputable store that takes care of their birds, I will definitely plan to check it out next time I am up in this area. I just don't want to go in and feel like I need to rescue all of the birds in the store.

Anything anyone knows would be appreciated.

Yes I know about this store. It is filthy and he keeps his birds in poor condition their cages are always dirty and it stinks in there because he uses corn cob bedding. He used to smoke a cigar in there around the birds.I have been saving birds from there for years. My last one was one of my Eclectus that he wasn't feeding correctly.A stopped going in that store 2 years ago because enough is enough.I don't understand why or how he is still in business people have been trying to shut him down for years to no avail. If you go in that store go at your own risk.

okay well if sashagirl says something is bad then it is bad . I would definately go into a place if she says it is a nice store but if she says it needs to be shut down then she is for real . We have one here that I would love to shut down . I saw an ekkie in the store and told the man who btw was filthy and reeked of ciggie smoke , I told him his ekkie was barbered . He said yeah what about it ? well I hate to tell you all what I did . I went home and cried for all those birds in that store I also reported him to health and welfare services for animals here . I am glad that I did too cause I just heard that they shut his store down !!! I dont care at least now maybe these birds will get the proper care they need .This man is disgusting and vile . good luck everybody have a nice day .

Thanks everyone. I have to say that even without actually going into the store, my first impression was that this was a place that did not take proper care of their birds. The poor cockatoos in the window are in huge cages, but have no toys at all. I thought it was pretty horrible that they were right in the window like that because anyone can come by and harass the birds at the front window and they have no where to hide to get away. It also kinda creeped me out seeing only the cages in the store with nothing else for sale. That seemed really weird to me. If you're going to sell any kind of bird, you should sell supplies for them too.

That settles that. I'm NOT going in next time I'm up there. I don't want to spend my trip upset for those poor birds.

Thanks everyone!

That place wasn't there when I lived in Orange. I grew up in that town. I did however leave in 1994 and it's been a while since I was up there (2 yrs ago)

I will stop in there next time I am up to visit Family, I have NO PROBLEM telling the store owner what I think of his store. :D

I live in Stamford and have actually heard of that place...Negatives all around. In my town (city that it has become), we have Parrot's and Co. I buy food there and the bird's all seem healthy and well cared for. The store is clean, the people seem on the ball, and when I've asked about different birds they tell me their hatch date, their breeder, their wean date if they were brought in; they also breed some; as they have a nursery, which they will let you in if you've been vetted ( a long term customer with bird experience.) I have never left there feeling I need to rescue a bird. Also, they have the most beautiful Hyacinth I have ever seen, granted only seen 4. I think they breed it sometimes.

I only know what I hear about that place, but it hasn't been good

I knew alot of Orange Cops when I lived up there I had many Friends on the force and some current Officers are still there that I was Friends with. I have no problem speaking my mind, nor calling the State. If he calls the Cops he calls them, no worries here.
