Gotta put my 2 cents in for Vasa's......Although not common, they are excellent companions, and yes I am biased. I have bred raised, rescued, and rehabbed many species of parrots. But vasa's.....they are only seasonally loud. If it is not breeding season they typically don't even talk let alone scream, whistle or make a peep. They are not chewers by any means, but they might take apart you cabinets instead leaving absolutely no beak marks, just a pile of screws. They are highly intelligent and need to have foraging and lots or puzzle toys. Some can out talk a grey while others don't talk at all. They can and do sing like canaries. They are very independent yet love to snuggle in the evening. They will roll around on your lap and jump and play like a puppy. They are huge eaters and will eat you out of house and home, and will readily eat anything as long as it is food. I like to say that they are like having a Too, grey, and a caique all wrapped up in one, minus the cons of each of those birds. For the down sides the biggest thing is they are not behaviorally wired like other parrots, so trying to apply currant parrot behavior training will completely work against you and create many behavioral problems. Also the biology is different so you need to be willing to learn about them, cause your avian vet will not know either.
