depends on where they come from - quarantine for at least 30 days (60 preferred) if i don't know any background.
didn't quarantine nino when he came to my house as he was quarantined at TGF and came with a clear health record - one done 2 1/2 month before coming to my house, one done right when he joined valo

By definition, quarantine should be a minimum of 40 days.
I personally feel that 30 days is to short, with rare exception. I think that 90 days is ideal. Keep in mind that Q should ideally be done in a seperate air space. Every possible precaution should be taken to protect the health and well-being of you pets, avian or otherwise.

Air space really is the least of it, for effective quarantining. If you see your quarantined birds, then your own without a full clothes change and shower (unless you wear a hazmat suit!), you're still introducing anything the quarantined birds have into your flock. Making a rule to feed them last, touch them last and clean completely in between if you must mix visiting flock and quarantined birds is the only method you can really use.
I have separate facilities for my quarantine, so I'm pretty lucky in that. I quarantine in room 1 (higher heat, lower light room) for a week while we get the bird checked out and tested for everything under the sun, along with 2 cultures upon entering, and end of week. After that, they go into room 2 where they get acclimated to either indoor or room 3 where they stay at outdoor temps. If it's room 3, I monitor their eating and poops and general condition and document it but otherwise leave them alone. For room 2, it's my night time office, so they get music, monitored and documented and lovin's lol. After 60 days, they get rechecked by the vet, surgically sexed if required, my open band put on their free legs (if breeders, otherwise they get microchipped if no closed band) and at 70 days if cleared, they get introduced either to their new breeding flight, or inside. If there are any problems at all, even if the bird checks clean for 70 days, I'll keep them in quarantine longer to establish a treatment for whatever the problem is (sometimes this could be something as simple as poor feather condition) and if they culture well for three weeks, they get introduced into their permanent cage.

Easy! Just make your neighbours run away, use their flats.
/shifty-eyes hehe Before we moved here, I did the whole "Sis, could these new birds stay in your house for oh..umm....*mumbles*afewmonths *mumbles*... A while?" *blinks innocently* My sister oddly developed a strong fondness for chicken during those months lol!

I did! My vet recommended for 30 days, but I had tests run on both of mine anyway. Newt had his regular physical in Feb. I brought Elliot home in May, but had him tested before I brought him home and still quarantined them.
I didn't want either of my babies sick.
